Position Title - EDM Specialist/Programmer
Position Number - new
Position Status -Full-Time
Regular Work Hours: Typically Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, occasional nights and weekends may be required; work is completed onsite and in-person.

Position Specific Responsibilities: The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) is a fast-growing area withinWSU, known globally for our expertise in the most critical areas of aerospace research and development. TheNIARMachine Shop is looking for anEDMSpecialist/Programmer to work in the Park City, KS location.
Summary of Responsibilities: Responsible for creating work instructions and preparing programs to be read by controllers on computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines for the purpose of producing precision machined metal parts in conformance with customer design specifications.
Essential Functions
- Prepares numerical control (NC) programs and related documentation for producing a precision part on the machines
- Creates consistent and reliable methods for optimum efficiency of material removal and part compliance
- Selects cutting tools that are suitable for particular part/machine tool; sets up all jobs with required fixtures and tooling
- Follows the progress of part(s) through inspection and other processing cycles for discrepancies and optimizations
- Collaborates with internal and external customers as required regarding delivery, blueprint questions, lean ideas, cost reductions, etc.
- Identifies improvement opportunities; adheres to schedule and budget constraints
- Provides support for machine operations; provides training on safe work habits as needed
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent by hire date
Preferred Education
Minimum Experience Five (5) years of relevant work experience; Every 30 hours of related college coursework and/or technical training can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Preferred Experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of machining practices.
- Create and edit complex programs usingCAD/CAMsystems (Esprit/Mastercam)
- Experience with or formal training in AutoCAD programming (ESPRIT/ Mastercam) or equivalent experience to be proficient is preferred.
- Operate equipment to maximize efficiency
- Perform maintenance on equipment; change filters, lubricate, and clean
- Ability to work to +/-.0001
- Ability to run multiple machines and manage time independently.
- Have expert skill level reading all 2D drawings and interpreting GD&T.
- Ability to understand NC programming.
- UsingERPorMRPsoftware to read schedules
- Basic reasoning skills and language skills. Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business paperwork in English.
- Ability to complete shop paperwork.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions/requests
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Performs over work related tasks as needed.
- Valid Drivers License required.
