This job was posted by https://www.kansasworks.com : For more information, please see: https://www.kansasworks.com/ada/r/jobs/11281135 Job Description SummaryThe position is responsible for the review and follow-up on zoning and permitting actions to assure compliance with County regulations, the inspection and investigation of zoning and/or subdivision regulation violations, the administration of floodplain regulations and other planning functions necessary to assist with the orderly growth and development of Miami County. Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures.Job ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:Assures adherence with all zoning, subdivision, variance and conditional use projects approved by the Miami County Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and the Board of County Commissioners through timely and thorough field inspections and consistent enforcement of regulations, resolutions and conditions. Provides effective written and oral communications to the public and staff in accordance with proper procedure.Assures adherence to applicable regulations or resolutions by thoroughly investigating all zoning complaints and violations, notifying potential violators, and seeking compliance through informal and formal enforcement.Assures compliance with applicable local & State regulations in regard to the issuance of sign permits and inspection of sign installations.Assists in the duties of Floodplain Administrator for Miami County by assuring compliance with applicable local, State, and Federal regulations in regard to the issuance of floodplain development permits and certificates. Maintains good public relations with general public, etc., by providing professional investigations of complaints and/or violations in a timely manner.Advises the general public on zoning, subdivision and floodplain regulations and procedures in the course of performing essential job functions, and presents one on one or group instruction as requested.Performs various data collection and research duties to support ongoing planning activities including coordinating with the Planner in regard to the writing or re-writing of Zoning & Subdivision Regulations.Maintains accurate records of work by documenting all investigations, official correspondence and pertinent data for future reference.Files actions with the County Counselor regarding zoning violations and assists Counselor in preparation for trial, and provides testimony as necessary.Provides thorough research of nonconforming grandfathering requests to determine legality.Performs Zoning Verifications to determine the legal status of properties in the county. Performs other related duties as deemed necessary or appropriate by the Director. Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge, Skills and Abilities -Knowledge of:Zoning and Subdivision Regulations.Federal laws and regulations, State Statutes pertaining to Zoning, Subdivision, and Floodplain Management, and any relevant case law and AG opinions.Standards and procedures for inspections and investigations. Experience working in local government preferred. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after 6 months to one year in the position. Education: High School diploma or GED required. Some college-level coursework or Associates Degree recommended and preferred. Licenses/Certifications:Valid driver's license required; Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) from the Kansas Association of State Floodplain Mangers (KAFM) or ability to obtain CFM certification within 1 year of employment preferred.
