Assist writers from all disciplines and of varying abilities with grammar, writing, speech, and any other aspect of the writing process. This could take place via drop-in, one-time appointments, one-on-one individualized tutoring sessions, and/or workshops. Attendance at training sessions or other scheduled meetings. Other tasks might include filling in at the front desk, updating resources, monitoring self-paced modules, referring students to appropriate resources, assisting students, faculty and staff in the WCTR, mentoring new and peer Writing Specialists, overseeing operations in the absence of the Writing Center Director, performing special tasks for the ARC, and other duties as assigned.







Job Duties

Job duties include but are not limited to:




+ TRAINING - Attend training and department meetings as requested.



+ COMMUNICATION - WS communicates effectively with students, the WCTR Director, and JCCC faculty and staff.



+ ASSIST IN THE TRAINING AND MENTORING OF WS - Help Writing Specialists learn the best practices in tutoring, the available resources on campus, the policies and procedures of the WCTR, as well as assisting in development of new training materials.



+ MAINTAIN ETHICAL WORK BEHAVIORS - Exhibit good work ethics by being reliable and dedicated.





Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.







Required Qualifications

A Master's degree in English, Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Center Theory, Education, TESOL or closely related discipline required (or at least 15 graduate hours in one of these subjects, which would certify a candidate in the state of Kansas)

Experience teaching at the Community College level

Familiarity with L Ss and other educational technology

Ability to work with diverse groups

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Proficiency with standard office equipment and technology








Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a tutor capacity
