Your Opportunity
This is a full-time Wildlife Biologist position working with our Environmental Services (ES) group in our Overland Park, KS office. You will write reports including Habitat Conservation Plans, Eagle Conservation Plans, and Bird and Bat Conservation Strategies, perform wildlife habitat assessments and species surveys, assist with permitting and compliance monitoring, and implement measures to avoid and minimize environmental impacts.
Your Key Responsibilities
Leading the preparation, research, and review of technical documents, such as environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, habitat conservation plans, and environmental and technical reports.
Writing and contributing to technical reports for client and regulatory agency review.
Entering, analyzing, and summarizing data from wildlife field surveys and habitat assessments for a variety of different species and habitat types.
Implementing avian, reptile, amphibian, mammal, and terrestrial invertebrate field survey techniques to inventory and monitor wildlife for a variety of different project types including renewable energy, energy transmission and generation, mining, transportation, and private development.
Performing biological monitoring of wildlife species at active construction sites.
Assisting in providing input to proposals or pursuits of various sizes and complexity.
Preparing for and attending client and regulatory agency meetings and providing recommendations and input.
Completing office tasks such as data management, analysis and interpretation; report preparation, preparation of environmental approval applications and other general tasks.
Completing Health and Safety and QA/QC protocols.
Interacting and communicating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, regulators, and clients
Ability to travel across the Midwest to conduct surveys, up to 50%.
Qualifications

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with lead authorship of technical documents
Ability to validate and accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.
Ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and vendors to successfully meet shifting needs.
Ability to manage risks and safety appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Effectiveness in resource planning, results delivery, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation.
Strong ethics and leadership qualities.
Customer focused with the ability to understand and appropriately respond to clients’ business needs.
Ability to work well under pressure, and to prioritize and balance workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.
Possess a diverse skill set in multiple environmental disciplines and have a passion for lifelong learning.
Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, and the ability to work in the field for long hours in all weather conditions.
Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree with 5-10 years of relevant experience. Master of Science Degree in biology, wildlife, ecology, or related biological field and 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
