YRC Freight Sr Paralegal and Executive Assistant in Overland Park, Kansas

JOB SUMMARY

Will require a high-level legal professional with a broad range of legal experience that can function independently in an exciting fast-paced environment. Will combine advanced paralegal skills and experience with administrative and analytical functions to meet the various needs of a robust in-house legal team. In addition, will require advanced communication skills and a commitment to professionalism and confidentiality as the Sr. Paralegal and Legal Analysts will work closely with Yellow’s attorneys and key business partners on the most critical legal matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborate with the Yellow legal team, senior leadership, external vendors, Third-Party Administrators, outside counsel, auditors, and actuaries, and develop strong relationships across and outside the organization.

  2. Provide paralegal support to assigned legal team members, which includes but is not limited to, drafting, and reviewing legal documents, conducting legal research, maintaining case or claim files, information and fact gathering, and analyzing and summarizing relevant information, preparing, and maintaining relevant documents, and communication with relevant parties including business partners and outside counsel.

  3. Assist with litigation and claims management including file opening, docketing, data collection and preservation (including Electronically Stored Information), legal holds, discovery requests, communication with outside counsel and Third-Party Administrators, and any other support needed throughout all phases of a claim and/or litigation.

  4. Develop and implement tracking tools to manage relevant dockets of claims and litigation.

  5. Research, analyze and compile complex data sets into detailed legal and financial (internal and external) reports and assist with any other analysis and presentations needed to fulfill corporate reporting and governance obligations.

  6. Work independently to prepare information and gather necessary documents to respond to a wide variety of internal and external legal requests including subpoenas.

  7. Create, organize, and maintain records in matter management systems such as Legal Tracker and SharePoint to make sure the most recent updates are accessible to the legal team.

  8. Participate in and facilitate the preparation, execution and administration of agreements, contracts and other legal documents including payment of invoices and settlements.

  9. Manage incoming Service of Process and Legal mail to ensure that matters are routed to the appropriate parties.

  10. Monitor state and federal regulatory trends, activities, and requirements, including, without limitation, DOT, FMSCA, DOL and EEOC.

  11. Serve as an Executive Assistant to the General Counsel which includes but is not limited to, scheduling, calendaring tasks, material preparation, data entry, coordinating travel arrangements, scanning and copying, processing expense reimbursements, and other general administrative tasks.

  12. Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s degree and commensurate work experience.

  2. Ten (10) years of paralegal experience in various areas of law such as corporate governance, litigation, labor and employment, contracts, and transactional matters.

  3. At least five (5) years of paralegal experience in a law firm required.

  4. Proficiency in the MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

  5. Proficiency in eDiscovery tools, such as Relativity or Microsoft Purview.

  6. Positive attitude and exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  7. Ability to maintain privilege, confidentiality, and discretion and to approach all aspects of the position with integrity, good judgment, and a client/customer service focus.

  8. Demonstrated problem solving, quantitative analysis, and analytical abilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. ABA approved Paralegal Certificate.

  2. Previous experience as a paralegal in an in-house legal department and at a law firm.

  3. Familiarity with Lexis or Westlaw, PACER, and other internet-based court document retrieval systems.

  4. Previous experience supporting multiple lawyers in varying practice areas.

  5. Previous experience assisting attorneys on high-volume complex and/or multi-party litigation.

  6. Previous experience assisting attorneys in the discovery process including collecting, organizing, and managing high-volume of documents associated with legal claims.

  7. Ability to handle pressure, interruptions, and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities in an efficient manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

This position is a hybrid role located in Overland Park, Kansas and requires in-person attendance to meet relevant business need.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs. of supplies and materials is required.
