The Telemetry Senior Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership for our telemetry organization and products. This position is responsible for the organization of mechanical component product and process engineering activities
Specific duties include:
Determines acceptability of processes and materials in conjunction with suppliers, design agency engineers, quality engineers, and other affected organizations
Interacts with design agency and/or supplier counterparts to resolve moderate to complex design, development, production and acceptance issues
Champions continuous improvement
Evaluates and implements innovations and technological advances that improve quality, reduce flow time, improve productivity, enhance operational surety and resolve critical process and technical-related issues.
Estimates set-up times, flow-times, costs of production and acceptance equipment
Compiles cost estimates and delivery quotations, Monitors performance
Prepares reports, statistics, and recommendations for mgt review
Defines/recommends design changes and alternate designs of instruments and test equipment
Collaborates with quality engineering on tooling, gaging, and equipment necessary to assure product quality
Plans/performs engineering testing and development programs
Uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve critical engineering and production problems to assure product manufacturability
Utilizing highly technical and scientific methods, conducts research and R&D experimentation Applies/develops/recommends innovative methodologies and technologies that are equal to the industry's state of the art to resolve complex engineering, processing, design and quality problems
Writes technical reports on results and conclusions drawn from experiments conducted Incorporates findings in formal specifications
Provides technical consultation
You Must Have:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited engineering program
US Citizenship required
Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance
6 years or greater technical/manufacturing experience, preferably dealing with vendors and National Labs
Ability to travel up to 10 percent time
Advanced experience in mechanical design (GD&T, model development and drawing creation, production processes and capabilities)
Experience working with complex assemblies and processes
Ability to organize/outline/distribute tasks
Successful interaction with internal and external design and production teams
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to positively influence others and create a passion for excellence
Exhibits a bias for action with follow through on commitments and multitasking that results in high customer service performance
Predilection to transfer knowledge and information to less experienced team members (inside and outside of “home” department)
Demonstrated excellent and effective verbal, written and presentation skills
Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies including Six Sigma
Applied knowledge of standard office and engineering desktop systems and applications
Working familiarity with project management concepts and tools
