A recently identified lithium brine resource of approximately 2.4 million metric tons lithium carbonate equivalent at our Ogden, Utah, solar evaporation site is creating new opportunities at Compass Minerals. Explore the potential with us.

As the largest operation of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, our Ogden operations has leveraged the high mineral concentrations within the ambient lake brine from the North Arm of the Great Salt Lake to produce sulfate of potash (SOP), salt and magnesium chloride products for more than 50 years. Compass Minerals is now undertaking a strategic evaluation to assess development options available to service growing U.S. domestic lithium market demand while maximizing the long-term value of its lithium resource.

The Business Development Sr. Manager will work closely with the Project Management, Operations, Commercial and Strategy teams to develop partnerships and new customer relationships in the Lithium value chain (battery and EV). You will build and manage the opportunities pipeline to translate leads into sales and ensure Compass Minerals Li business is creating value for customers, deals are closed and customer relationships are cultivated.

Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Understand battery/EV ecosystem

  • Ensure Compass Minerals value proposition is aligned with partners and customers needs

  • Implement Compass Minerals Lithium go-to-market strategy

  • Ensure marketing materials correctly conveys the Li BU value proposition

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and partners, fully understanding the buying process

  • Support the product qualification process

  • Understand and advocate for customer needs to ensure customer feedback is addressed

  • Identify industry trends and anticipate effects on Compass Li BU

  • Assess competitor moves and market developments and impact on Li Bu products, pricing and market positioning

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Mastery of marketing fundamentals (i.e., pricing, CRM, delivery strategy, value chain dynamics)

  • Thorough understanding of economic variables and related market effects

  • Astute financial knowledge and commercially minded

  • Strong technical skills to understand customers’ needs

  • Highly motivated, self-driven and customer-focused

  • Strong negotiation and influencing ability

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Marketing and Sales or related field; MBA also valued

  • 8 years of experience in e-mobility value chain (Battery / Raw materials / Supply Chain)

  • Prior experience in product management, preferable in building a new business in manufacturing

  • Prior experience managing customers’ accounts

  • Ability to travel domestically
