Larry Kutscher - Chief Executive Officer

Larry Kutscher is Chief Executive Officer of A Place for Mom. Larry is a veteran CEO with over 30 years of experience leading digital, technology and service businesses through significant periods of growth and value creation. Prior to this role, he served as Chief Executive Officer of TravelClick, where he drove the company’s overall strategic vision and helped increased the company’s value from approximately $300 million to more than $1.5 billion over eight years.


A Place for mom is looking for a highly self-motivated, experienced hands on QA Manager/Lead with strong QA fundamentals and prior programming or automation experience.

As a SDET Manager/Lead, you will create and implement a strategy driving the quality of our products to a world class level while managing a team of Quality Assurance professionals. In addition to experience with building and leading successful test teams, we're looking for someone to drive quality through both software and process improvements and drive engineering excellence across multiple development teams.

In this role, you will lead our QA efforts and maintain a high bar for quality for the applications we develop. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a proven track record building and managing internal and external teams distributed across multiple locations.


The successful SDET Manager/Lead will be obsessed with quality improvement, experienced and highly committed to creating world class automation for regression and feature testing, able to develop and drive a high-level test and automation strategy, as well as take a hands-on approach to implementing that strategy. In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team of QA Engineers of multiple teams.

  • Work with business and development teams to understand product vision and requirements

  • Take part in hiring and developing a Team of engineers

  • Understand how all elements of the system software ecosystem work together and develop QA approaches that fit the overall strategy

  • Be responsible for development of test strategies and creation of appropriate test harnesses

  • Oversee the development and execution of test plans and monitoring and reporting on test execution

  • Must be delivery focused, with a strong willingness to perform all tasks required to complete the job and meet deadlines.

  • Works with the team’s QA engineers to discuss QA strategies throughout the development processes. Identifies systemic quality deficiencies.

  • Advocates automated testing techniques from multiple perspectives, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

  • Work with support teams to triage and understand customer issues.

  • Establish and maintain an overarching QA roadmap, with a goal of increasing efficiency and quality through tools, technology and strategic initiatives

  • Track ongoing project statuses and create weekly reports

  • Verify fixes are implemented correctly throughout the product cycle in both consumer and development environment

  • Report on metrics using data to guide action for your team

  • Identify risks, impact, probability, and plan mitigation

  • Experience in working in and with Agile (Scrum) teams as well as participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement and agile ceremonies

  • The ability to work beyond the assignment and provide continuous innovation to tools and processes

  • Work directly with Production and Development teams to track features and direct test plans for those features

  • Collaborate with Production and Development on QA needs and risks to current and upcoming projects

  • Assist in onboarding and training of new team members

  • Direct internal testers and external vendors in daily and weekly tasks

  • Define test strategies, organize testing processes, improve test coverage through existing or new infrastructure, and perform exploratory testing

  • Work with Product Management and Engineering team to ensure Quality is applied throughout the software development process

  • Support Product and Engineering by creating, investigating, and managing defect reports so that issues can be prioritized accordingly and fixed in a timely manner

  • Become a subject matter expert on our internal applications, leading you to understand and explain how subtle changes can affect a complex application ecosystem

  • Solid understanding and experience working with JIRA and other QA/development tools

  • Ability to manage multiple test cycles running in parallel across multiple channels

  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams of developers and testers

  • Passionate about the customer experience, and what can be done to improve it

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g. github Actions)

  • Experience with performance testing using open-source tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter

  • Has experience and conviction around measures to quantify software quality

  • Experience with employee development, performance management, and delivering results

  • Provide the product owner/manager with the right information to allow them to make data driven decisions

  • Develop and continuously improve testing practices and strategies including functional, performance, regression and rollback testing scenarios, scripts or procedures

  • Develop and nurture strong cross functional partnerships; driving business results and inspiring a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability.


  • 7+ years of relevant testing experience, including knowledge of test methodologies, managing test plans, and managing test cases

  • 2+ years of experience managing a team, comprised of individuals at different experience levels

  • Experience with any JS test automation frameworks (e.g., NodeJs /Cucumber/ WebdriverIO /Appium/Selenium/Cypress/Cucumber/Mocha/Protractor and willingness to learn new tools as necessary), WebdriverIO is preferred.

  • Experience in Manual and automation testing of Web services (Rest, GraphQL) using API testing tools such as Postman, GraphQL Playground or similar tools

  • Experience with project management tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.)

  • Well versed with concepts of Performance & Load Testing with JMeter and K6 is desirable.

  • Nice to have CI experience to enable automated test execution with CI/CD tools

  • Strong ability to debug code, analyzes failures, and trace defects to the root cause.

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, low-structure, constantly changing atmosphere. Able to prioritize work appropriately across changing contexts.

  • Experience with cross-browser compatibility testing methodologies and practices

  • Enthusiasm for finding and fixing broken things every single day

  • Demonstrated aptitude for triaging, troubleshooting, and thoroughly testing complex systems

  • Operate with the highest level of conduct, integrity, and confidentiality; setting the example for leaders and associates.

  • Develop and nurture strong cross functional partnerships; driving business results and inspiring a culture of transparency, collaboration, and accountability.

  • Strong understanding of Agile workflow and development methodologies

  • Recruit, identify, develop, and retain talent that delivers performance excellence.

  • Ability to balance a strong management presence with a high level of approachability, encouraging and eliciting associate feedback and interaction.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, GIT and Docker

  • Experience working in the healthcare industry
