Assist writers from all disciplines and of varying abilities with grammar, writing, speech, and
any other aspect of the writing process. This could take place via drop-in, one-time
appointments, one-on-one individualized tutoring sessions, and/or workshops. Attendance
at training sessions or other scheduled meetings. Other tasks might include filling in at the
front desk, updating resources, referring students to appropriate resources, assisting
students, faculty and staff in the WCTR, mentoring new and peer tutors, overseeing
operations in the absence of the Writing Center Director, performing special tasks for the
ARC, and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:
+ TUTORING - Tutors may work with students during drop-in, one-time appointments, one-on-one individualized tutoring sessions, and/or workshops.
+ ASSIST IN DAILY ACTIVITIES OF THE WCTR - Aid in the daily management and operation of the Writing Center.
+ SPECIAL PROJECTS - Completion of special projects assigned by the Director.
+ TRAINING - Attend training and department meetings as requested.
+ COMMUNICATION - Tutor communicates effectively with students, the WCTR Director, and JCCC faculty and staff.
+ ASSIST IN THE TRAINING AND MENTORING OF TUTORS - Help tutors learn the best practices in tutoring, the available resources on campus, the policies and procedures of the WCTR, as well as assisting in development of new training materials.
+ MAINTAIN ETHICAL WORK BEHAVIORS - Exhibit good work ethics by being reliable and dedicated.

Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree or equivalent
Completion of Composition 1 and Composition 2 with a B or better
Two years tutoring or teaching experience, with minimum of one year in a college Writing Center or like resource center
Strong communications skills, including listening with patience and understanding
Demonstration of excellent grammar and writing skills with the ability to explain concepts, provide example in both oral and
written form
Ability to learn and utilize effective tutoring techniques following bets practices
Must be able to help with computer and standard office equipment
Proficient with technology
