Provide one-on-one individualized and drop-in tutoring services to students at JCCC.

Demonstrate understanding of the unique learning needs of students and adapt to those

individual needs. Remain current on subject matter in courses which they are assigned for

tutoring. Maintain a working knowledge of learning strategies. Attend trainings on topics

pertaining to tutoring techniques and working with students of varying abilities. Other

responsibilities include referring students to appropriate resources, assisting students,

faculty, and staff in the AAC, mentoring new and peer tutors, working in outreach

programs, overseeing operations in the absence of the Tutor Coordinator, performing

special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Job Duties

Job duties include but are not limited to:

+ TRAINING - Attend training and department meetings as requested.

+ COMMUNICATION - Tutor communicates effectively with students, the Tutor Coordinator and/or AAC Director, and all JCCC faculty and staff.

+ ASSIST IN THE TRAINING AND MENTORING OF NEW & PEER TUTORS - Help new and peer tutors learn the best practices in tutoring, the available resources on campus, the policies and procedures of the AAC, as well as assisting in development of new training materials.

+ MAINTAIN ETHICAL WORK BEHAVIORS - Exhibit good work ethics by being reliable and dedicated.

Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or like discipline

2 years of tutoring or teaching experience, with a minimum of 1 year tutoring experience in a college academic achievement center or like experience in a collegiate academic department or division.

Experience working with students with disabilities

Well-developed communication and listening skills

Good organizational skills

Must be able to use email and online resources as well as help students with computer programs and online learning platforms

Ability to explain content material to students orally and in written form

Knowledge of C++ and Java programming language

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree

Experience in target discipline-related skills
