YRC Freight Safety Internship Summer 2023 in Overland Park, Kansas

JOB SUMMARY

The mission our Safety team states: Working together, we identify and control exposure to champion safety in all we do. This internship provides an opportunity to learn about the transportation industry from one of the largest LTL carries in the country while performing operational and administrative functions, gaining professional experience, and exposure in the field of study.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Under direct supervision of a mentor, learn and develop skills in field of study.

  2. Gain exposure to the business environment and transportation industry.

  3. Perform basic tasks and administrative duties, support Safety initiatives as required.

  4. Create new, and revise existing, safety training content to align with current strategies.

  5. Analyze data and create reports to help inform and develop improvement plans accordingly.

  6. Participate on group projects.

  7. Assist with training and implementation of Safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, FMCSA, DOT, EPA and other regulatory agencies.

  8. Conduct literature reviews and research to support Safety projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. In progress to a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety Environmental Management, Occupational Safety Management, or other related degree preferred.

  2. Proven track record in effectively working with others to achieve results.

  3. Able to provide example(s) of work to demonstrate ability to achieve results.

  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying of 10 lbs. of supplies and materials is required.
