YRC Freight Return to Work Specialist - Workers Comp in Overland Park, Kansas

JOB SUMMARY

The role services an internal customer service function for field operations. The position involves direct contact with injured workers, physicians, Third Party Administrator (TPA) and field personnel to assist with coordination of Workers Compensation benefits. This position reports to the Supervisor position.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Complete initial contact with employee and maintain ongoing communication with injured worker.

  2. Determine appropriate claim type to ensure accurate claim handling including financial obligations.

  3. Develop and maintain a Return-to-Work (RTW) Team concept with the TPA, Terminal, injured worker and medical provider to maintain overall cost of claim.

  4. Maintain ongoing communication with adjuster, nurse case manager and medical provider to ensure RTW expectations and options are understood.

  5. Coordinate a RTW plan with Adjuster, Doctor, and internal staff with the purpose of returning the employee to modified work or full duty.

  6. Provide wage statements and medical documentation as needed to the adjuster and Terminal.

  7. Demonstrate a reduction in lost time days in assigned territory to decrease overall cost of claim.

  8. Keep documentation on file for all activities current with 24 hours.

  9. Complete and submit appropriate state forms to appropriate entity.

  10. Coordinate and facilitate conference call schedule for EMP calls.

  11. Maintain spreadsheets for Employee Management Process (EMP) and tracking.

  12. Participate on conference calls as needed.

  13. Report metrics and other results as requested to the Manager-Claims Process.

  14. Monitor key points on the Quality Assurance checklist and communicate deviations to internal staff to improve quality.

  15. Confirm medical treatment is active and available in the shortest time frame possible.

  16. Work with the internal staff on subsequent periods of disability to ensure effective RTW options are explored.

  17. Ensure period of disability are accurately entered into the system and deviations addressed in the same day.

  18. Coordinate with SIU and Fraud as needed maintaining coordination with the adjuster and internal staff.

  19. Provide coordination to field Human Resources in the areas of FMLA and the Interactive Process.

  20. Assist internal staff with Pay Disputes.

  21. All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School Diploma

  2. 2 years of customer service experience

  3. Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills

  4. Excellent communication and customer service skills

  5. Microsoft proficient with proficiency in Excel


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS **

  1. 2 years of workers’ compensation, legal or risk management experience

  2. BA or equivalent level of combined work experience and education.

  3. Understanding of basic medical terminology, a plus.


WORKING CONDITIONS


This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
