Operations Safety Manager (Midwest) - ( 21059V )

Shift : Day


Work in collaboration with the Safety and Operations Leadership to develop a culture of safety. Train and coach field leaders to identify and control exposures that can lead to injury or collision. Facilitate safety workshops to progress key initiatives and improve safety results. Participate in the development and delivery of safety training content that will ensure the company’s compliance to regulatory requirements and commitment to our safety vision.


  1. Lead a culture of safety rooted in the identification and elimination of exposures. Support the development and execution of Area safety training strategies.

  2. Provide feedback and coaching to Terminal and Area Safety Councils on how to strengthen site governance and related challenges.

  3. Facilitate safety leadership and driver training workshops; provide feedback on how to apply knowledge and skills learned from workshops. Progress the productive use of SafeAlign® System, Smith System, Kip Keys, and other programs focused on safe behaviors and leadership.

  4. Provide feedback to all levels of operations leadership on terminal and area overall success, challenges, and recommendations for how to improve safety performance and the functioning of safety leadership.

  5. Intentionally develop leaders within the department focusing on influence, feedback, shadowing, and identifying what “good” looks like. Continue to support the Culture of Safety.

  6. Validate safety improvement and compliance through the analysis of goals, metrics, data and audit results.

  7. Utilize injury and collision data to identify trends and participate in content development, field demonstrations, safety contacts, coaching events and job aids.

  8. Establish trust and credibility by maintaining a high level of integrity and communications with terminal operations and leadership.

  1. Bachelor’s degree.

  2. Five (5) years field experience in DOT operations; three (3) of which in a leadership capacity with demonstrated safety performance.

  3. Demonstrated knowledge and skills for adult learning facilitation.

  4. Excellent communication skills to receive and convey information effectively: oral and written comprehension and expression.

  5. High level of motivation, ability to efficiently work with little supervision, effective multi-tasking and prioritizing skills, and a willingness to lead other team members.


Professional credentials, certifications, or advanced degree a plus.


This position operates primarily in a field operations environment with varying weather conditions and fluctuating shift coverage, including weekends. Routinely uses standard office equipment, cell phones, computer technology, and regulatory websites. Ability to travel, by various methods, is required up to 75% of the time.


The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment, computers and/or facilitating training. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 20 lbs of parts, supplies, and materials is required.
