Your Opportunity

This Innovation Portfolio Manager will be responsible for advancement of research and digital tools and technologies focused on the water, wastewater, biosolids and energy sectors. The role will liaise with Sector Leaders and sector professionals, Water Delivery Center, Applied Research Group, Regional Delivery Leads, and team members within the Water Business Operating Unit (BOU) Office of Innovation & Technology. The role will be leading and driving our innovation in two key priority areas: 1. development of digital tools to enhance our process engineering delivery (bio, phys-chem, other) and 2. applied research. The professional will report to the Director of Innovation and Technology.

Your Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and drive critical research projects in the wastewater, biosolids and energy and water sectors in collaboration with the sector leadership and applied research group. While the professional may not be directly responsible for implementing research, they may serve as a principal investigator or guide/research mentor, or subject matter expert as required for the project.

  • Drive the development of process engineering, O&M focused and/or system planning/design digital tools to support the project implementation process. This will include projects defined by the Digital Delivery Steering Group and push innovation projects ideated by and driven by the professional.

  • Collaborate with the OI&T team to build a strong Innovation group and culture across the water business.

  • Effectively leverage new and emergent technologies in support of water digitalization and delivery practice and innovation efforts.

  • Key point of contact with select customer-advisory groups set up to provide market-intelligence, user requirements and expectations and early feedback on the digitalization efforts.

  • Support the Director of Water Innovation & Technology in internal informational sessions and messaging to keep key stakeholders in the Water BOU (e.g., sector leaders, regional growth leaders, etc.) informed of progress, KPIs, etc.

In addition, the professional will:

  • serve as an innovation coach for select greenlight and other “pull-innovation” submissions from Water BOU professionals.

  • collaborate on pilot-scale and/or large bench-scale testing of water/wastewater treatment processes and technologies; and

  • as necessary, support the Director of Innovation and Technology to drive related innovation initiatives within the Water BOU.

Utilization Expectations

  • It is anticipated that this professional will spend approximately 30%-35% of their time supporting MBD and project delivery based on their specific knowledge and skill sets. Note that the priorities and expectations of this role are based on research and innovation.

  • Willingness to develop and enhance low-code/no-code skill sets.

Education and Experience

  • PhD in a technical discipline 6 years of work experience as a process engineer in water, wastewater or biosolids/energy

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
