Your Opportunity

As a GIS Analyst/Developer with Stantec you will provide technical support which includes mapping applications, spatial analysis, and map production; as well as provide support for assigned projects. This specific opportunity will be responsible to create cities that represent reality, using the ESRI program CityEngine using flood data to meet requirements established by FEMA.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Create cities that represent reality, using the ESRI program CityEngine

  • Create buildings using Google Sketchup or similar programs that represent real-world structures

  • Refine existing Web Map Applications on ArcGIS Online based on ArcGIS Services

  • Assist with updates to GIS Databases

  • Responsible for specific objectives and the achievement of significant results

  • Independent judgement is exercised in selecting and interpreting information, handling deviations from standard methods and practices

  • Conducts independent studies and analysis making interpretations and typical decisions

  • Resolves difficulties and makes routine decisions

  • Participates and contributes to a productive, innovative, and collaborative work environment

  • Uses geospatial data to complete tasks using knowledge of Geographical Information Systems.

  • Inputs data into relevant software programs.

  • Assists team in creating basic aerial and mapping exhibits.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

  • Apply GIS concepts and spatial data.

  • Apply ESRI concepts and spatial data.

  • Perform data editing, digitizing, scanning and conversion.

  • Develop maps and other cartographic products.

  • Work in diverse work and team environments.

  • Work outside the typical office environment (e.g. GPS data collection) as needed.

  • Provide on-site GIS support at client or other Stantec offices as needed.

  • Work on Windows operating system (Word, Access, Excel).

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Preference given to those with experience using ESRI’s CityEngine

  • Ability to learn and comprehend new software programs quickly

  • Ability to be a self-learner and independent problem solver

  • Possess knowledge of a wide array of GIS software platforms including open source options

  • Preference given to those with GIS Programming experience using, but not limited to, CGA, Python, JavaScript, Node.js, C#, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL, and related technologies

  • Online GIS mapping experience preferred using, but not limited to Java, Google Maps API, SQL Server, and ArcGIS Online

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in GIS or related discipline. Minimum of 0-2 years of experience

Co-op/Internship experience preferred

GISP Certification and/or graduate degree preferred

Position will work in an office setting.
