Job Summary and Qualifications
The Financial Coordinator understands detailed medical terminology, related insurance Medicare/Medicaid rules and regulations and the demographics of the healthcare community. The financial coordinator will communicate with the physician and nurses to gather sufficient information to obtain authorizations; act as a liaison between patients, physicians, centralized scheduling and billing offices, third party Medicaid eligibility vendor and community agencies. The coordinator will work with patients and their families beginning with the evaluation for treatment and continuing through and after treatment, in a compassionate and tactful manner in order to help facilitate access to and provide continuity of care; assist with applicable resources and prescription/drug programs if necessary. What you will do in this role:
Complies with Medicare/Medicaid rules and regulations
Help uninsured/underinsured patients with any applicable resources/programs
Reviews daily schedule to identify verifications needed
Verify and update patient’s eligibility coverage, resolve any discrepancies prior to the patients’ visit
Obtain authorizations for testing/procedures/IV and oral therapies prior to appointment/start dates; initiate appeals process if needed
Alert staff, management, and patients of any identified potential coverage issues
Document benefit determination; entering insurance information and patient demographics appropriately into Meditech and Mosaiq
Respond to benefits inquires presented by staff, physicians or patients
Assists with “walk in” customers requesting assistance, in addition, taking phone calls from customers who call with questions
Meet with patients/family at time of chemo education appointment to discuss any financial concerns/explanation of benefits throughout course of treatment; and as needed throughout treatment
Demonstration of exceptional customer service skills in the performance of work assignments and duties
Adherence to the Mission, Vision, and Values of HCA at all times
What Qualifications You Will Need:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience of customer service and accounting functions in a Health Care setting preferred.
Commercial and Medicare coordination, benefit coordination, and coding experience preferred.
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, along with reasoning and mathematical skills required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and control of detail, with frequent interruptions.
Basic typing, keyboard, and computer skills and knowledge.
