Primary Location : US-KS-Overland Park

Shift : Day


Utilize entry-level knowledge of Java and Spring, and/or core web technologies (JavaScript, HTML and CSS3) to develop, integrate and implement business solutions. Participate in an Agile-based team environment to develop core business and web solutions to bring competitive advantage to YRC Freight in the LTL Transportation market. Involved in all aspects of the development lifecycle including code development, user interaction, application testing and deployment.


  1. Perform programming assignments requiring a basic understanding of established programming standards, methods and best practices.

  2. Interpret business requirements, create functional specifications and determine the most efficient/appropriate technologies.

  3. Perform analysis of logical specifications and/or customer requirements to develop business solutions utilizing multiple technologies.

  4. Contribute to design of software solutions.

  5. Work with engineers and architects in continuous improvement initiatives.

  6. Collaborate with developers to implement solutions, resolve problems and perform code reviews.

  7. Follow development best practices such as version control, unit testing, continuous integration, performance and security testing, and appropriate documentation.

  8. Ensure quality and maintain performance of deployed solutions.

  9. Work with stakeholders following the Agile Scrum software development process.

  10. Provide technical support and participate in on-call rotation to resolve application issues.

  11. Assist with other projects as needed to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.

  1. Requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

  2. Up to Two (2) years related experience.

  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  4. Strong technical aptitude, fast learner and effective problem solver.

  5. Self-motivated, goal oriented, quality driven and capable of working both independently and in a team environment.

  6. Great team player with positive attitude.

  7. Foundation in object oriented programming and associated design concepts.

  8. Must meet the requirements associated with one or both of the following areas of specialization:

  • Front-end Developer:

  • Experience with JavaScript

  • Experience with HTML and CSS

  • Experience with AngularJS 1.x preferred

  • Experience with Mocha and/or Jasmine preferred

  • Experience with Cordova and Ionic preferred

  • Experience with NodeJS and ExpressJS preferred

  • Back-end Developer:

  • Experience with Java and Spring

  • Understanding of RESTful design

  • Experience with SQL Queries and SQL Server Stored Procedures

  • Experience with Spring preferred

  • Experience with NodeJS and ExpressJS preferred

  • Experience with Junit preferred


This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
