Job Summary

Responsible for the successful management of design services where Black and Veatch is the Designer of Record for Design-Build (DB) projects. Includes supporting an external construction entity such as a General Contractor which may hold the prime Federal Government contract. Primary areas of focus include team leadership, execution of quality deliverables, maintaining client service, meeting project financial performance metrics, planning, scheduling, contractual compliance, and safety. This position is supported by a multi-discipline engineering and project controls team.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages risk on design-build projects across all phases of the project life cycle (proposal through construction administrative services).

• Professional should have design-build experience with a variety of buildings including mission critical facilities, hangars, maintenance facilities, administration facilities, and/or support facilities.

• Develops and manages project execution plans and associated budgets.

Management Responsibilities

• Manages in-house multi-disciplinary teams.

• Candidate must have the ability to interface with multiple clients, users, and stakeholders simultaneously.

• Supports development of new/repeat business on design-build projects.

• Supports contract negotiations with clients.

• Mentors staff at all levels.

Management Responsibilities

Acts as a project manager. Among responsibilities is management of a project team. The individual comprising this team may vary by project.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years relevant experience in project management

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Architecture.

• Design-Build experience with Federal Government entities such as NAVFAC, USACE, and/or AF. Additional federal civilian agency experience is desirable.

• Experience managing design-build projects/programs as the Designer of Record.

• Good understanding of project SOW, fee proposal development, and design and construction schedules.

• Client development skills for repeat / additional projects

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of science degree.

All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications

Qualified candidates should be a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer, equivalent experience will be considered.

PMP Certification desirable, but not required.

CQM Certification desirable, but not required.

DBIA Certification desirable, but not required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Typical office environment, typical construction environment. Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
