HNTB Business Insurance Manager in Overland Park, Kansas

What We're Looking For

Leads a team in the coordination and administration of the firm's business insurance portfolio with annual premium value in excess of $10M to maintain maximum protection of the firm's assets. Assists project managers with pricing and procurement of project-specific professional liability insurance and railroad protective liability insurance policies. Facilitation of other project specific insurance as required by written agreement. Reviews and negotiates insurance provisions in contracts, proposals and leases. Develops and maintains relationships with brokers, underwriters and industry peers. Ensures programs are managed appropriately to eliminate loss of coverage, unfavorable renewal terms, radical increase in premiums and/or significant financial exposure to the firm.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Procure and administer insurance policies within the firm's business insurance portfolio

  • Manage workers' compensation, general liability, automobile liability and property loss/damage claim

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) or equivalent designation

  • 3 years risk and insurance experience in architecture, engineering or construction industry

  • Creates and maintains effective working relationships with insurance vendors and brokers.

  • Able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.



What You'll Need

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manages and evaluates the process of purchasing and renewing insurance. Prepares underwriting specifications. Negotiates pricing and renewals, claims handling and coverage modifications with the insurers, brokers and underwriters.

  • Develops and directs the analysis and assessment of contracts, proposals and business operations to ensure all risk exposures are properly insured and client requirements can be achieved. Educates project teams and contract specialists on impacts of not being able to meet certain coverage terms and conditions

  • Responsible for managing workers’ compensation, general liability, and property and auto liability claims. Participates in claim review, assists in settlement issues and is the main point of contact regarding claims with claims adjusters and outside defense counsel.

  • Assists project managers in negotiations with clients and sub-consultants regarding insurance requirements and reconciling contract language.

  • Oversees the issuance and tracking of insurance certificates to clients. Assists offices in tracking of sub consultant certificates of insurance and reviews same for conformance. Works with brokers and agents of sub-consultants to achieve compliance with contract terms

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management or related field

  • 7 years risk and insurance experience in insurance or professional services industry

  • In lieu of education, 11 years similar experience in A/E, construction, or insurance industry
