As the AVP - Finance, you'll be responsible for building and leading a team of financial professionals to support financial reporting, planning, and analysis functions for Intrepid Direct Insurance. You will work closely with senior leadership to support the achievement of financial objectives.

You will develop, hire and supervise employees who will, in collaboration with shared corporate resources, perform and oversee financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, and budget planning.

We'll count on you for:

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Design and implement efficient financial reporting processes to prepare and present financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles to meet Corporate financial reporting deadlines and internal control compliance requirements.

  • Prepare timely and accurate operating unit financial statements, including review for completeness, analysis compared to budget and prior periods, and presentation of results to Operating Unit and Corporate leadership teams.

  • Opportunity to provide collateral analysis for large self-insured customers.

Annual Budget Planning

  • Develop and implement efficient processes for annual planning process, including full utilization of enterprise-wide planning software to facilitate cross-functional participation in premium, loss and expense planning, and ensuring accuracy of compiled results.

  • Utilize multiple resources, including current budgeting tools, to develop and maintain various financial models to be used by Operating Unit leadership for accurate analysis and strategic decision making during the planning process, as well as conduct modeling to determine the impact of potential scenarios and plans throughout the year.

Financial Operations

  • Design and implement financial processes for disbursements, billing and collection processes to achieve efficiencies and compliance with all required SOX controls and testing.

  • Identify opportunities for growth, iterative improvements, and overall expense management, working directly with senior leadership.

  • Understand and facilitate the integration of financial business processes, people, and relevant technology, in order to develop and communicate useful information, and to provide strategic business leadership to support business decision making across the company

Employee Performance and Development

  • Provide leadership, development, and mentoring for finance department employees

  • Analyze talent and ensure the department possesses the capabilities necessary to meet the needs of the organization and the client, development of employee knowledge, skills and abilities, and communicate standards of performance.

  • Identify employees for promotional opportunities and create development plans to prepare them for their next step within the organization.

  • Ensures high level of teamwork, mutual respect and customer service mindset exists within the Finance team.

  • Resolve performance issues consistent with company policy.

  • Perform appropriate analysis and take action when deviations are observed from expectations.

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Business, Finance or Accounting; or fifteen years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

  • Ability to be proactive, a self-starter with the ability to manage time effectively

  • Leadership ability, including providing work direction, and performance coaching and feedback to staff

  • Quickly and professionally responds to inquiries

  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with internal and external business partners

  • Regularly and consistently demonstrates commitment to company values and guiding principles

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook

What makes you stand out:

  • Property/Casualty or other Insurance industry experience strongly preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

  • Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft preferred

  • Knowledge of Vena budgeting software preferred
