Position Summary: The Osawatomie State Hospital is currently seeking a Operator/Dispatch for the Midnight to 8:00 a.m. position. The purpose of this position is to serve as the hospital’s operator and dispatcher. In addition, the individual will be responsible for clerical support related to the operator and dispatching functions and Safety and Security department.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Safety and Security Dispatcher
+ Maintains Security Log by logging location, movement, responses / services provided by each Security Officer.
+ Logs visitors including purpose and location.
+ Logs events that occur on campus as reported by Security Officers and other staff.
+ Logs alert notifications for AWOL patients and contacts proper authorities, both on campus and off campus.
+ Communicates with Security Officers via two-way radio utilizing proper radio dispatch codes while maintain patient confidentiality.
+ Makes emergency calls to request ambulance, law enforcement assistance or outside emergency assistance.
+ Monitors alarm panels and dispatches officers to the site of the alarm.
+ Operates multi-line / multi-phone system to direct and route incoming calls on and off hospital campus.
+ Uses Public Announcement (PA) System for paging, general announcements, emergency (weather) announcements, and emergency codes.
+ Maintains current list of on-call medical and nursing staff as provided by nursing administration for use by staff.
+ Updates Hospital Intranet with weather conditions and alerts.
+ Sends daily reports to hospital leaders to keep them informed of events.
+ In the absence of Health Information Management Staff, completes pre-screening paperwork, transfers calls to the triage nurse, faxes paperwork to triage staff and Admissions Office.
+ Greets visitors by assisting them with log-in, directing them to the appropriate location, providing education regarding visitation policies and contacting unit staff.
+ Receives and searches property brought to the hospital by visitors.
+ Secures money left for patients by visitors.
+ Supports Safety and Security Officers through data entry / gathering, typing, filing, and faxing.
The incumbent of this position has authorized access or the potential of incidental exposure to Protected Health Information (PHI) under the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule. PHI must be treated in accordance with the provisions of the HIPAA Privacy Regulation including the requirements for safeguarding, releasing and recording the release of such information. The incumbent has been trained in the provision of the HIPAA Privacy Regulations as they relate to the duties of this position.
