A Brief Overview The RN Unit Educator collaborates with the clinical team and the Education department to develop, and then implement educational opportunities/training, which includes general nursing education, department based orientation, validation, in-service activities, and ongoing staff competency. Maintain records associated with training. The RN Unit Educator performs direct patient care as assigned, and also acts as a resource person to nursing staff for nursing practice, policies and procedures, and equipment. The RN Unit Educator utilizes the nursing process to coordinate the interdisciplinary approach to patient care. He/she provides safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. He/she integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families through the continuum of care. The RN Unit Educator collaborates with others to integrate assessment and input of the patient, family and the interdisciplinary team. They ensure improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Demonstrates leadership skills in decision-making and problem-solving. The RN Unit Educator integrates and communicates knowledge and sensitivity to patient's psychosocial, spiritual, cultural and age specific needs. They practice within the boundaries of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards and organizational/departmental policies and procedures. Works with nursing instructors and nursing students regarding student experiences in the nursing unit/department. Works in collaboration with the Manager/Director.

Demonstrates organizational skills and plans ahead. Consistently demonstrates cost savings activities: Minimize supply waste. Demonstrates productive use of time. Offers suggestions for cost savings. Demonstrates knowledge of departmental information by: regularly attending staff meetings, reading email information, attending departmental in-service offerings, reading communication books, reviewing available literature and resource material. Able to respond to emergent situations in an effective manner and promotes teamwork by assisting others across disciplines. Demonstrates appropriate and effective conflict resolution skills. Step 1: Addresses issues with individuals involved in a courteous and professional manner. Step 2: Escalates issues to appropriate Department Director, as necessary.
Education Qualifications 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Graduation from an accredited school of nursing - Minimum
Experience Qualifications 1 - 3 Years Education Experience - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in accordance with the Kansas Nurse Licensure Compact - Minimum - Upon Hire Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) - Minimum - Due 7 Days from date of hire Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Minimum - Due 90 Days from date of hire National Institute of Health (NIH) certification - Minimum - Due 90 Days from date of hire
