A Brief Overview The Unit Coordinator provides leadership in the absence of the department manager or director. Along with the manager, they assist in coordination of patient care activities on a daily basis by optimizing staffing, directing patient flow and assisting in assignments on the nursing unit assigned. The Unit Coordinator has excellent clinical skills and maintains competence in general nursing and unit specific education and competencies. He/she provides formal and informal mentoring and assistance to staff with clinical activities and decision making. He/she actively participates in PI activities, committees, and task forces to improve nursing practice and care. The Unit Coordinator, in collaboration with the Education department and Unit Educator, actively participates in overseeing and/or planning unit orientation, validation, education and in-service needs. He/she works, in collaboration with the unit educator, with nursing instructors and nursing students regarding student experiences in the nursing unit/department. He/she ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. The Unit Coordinator demonstrates leadership skills in decision-making and problem solving, provides professional image and is a role model for staff. He/she integrates and communicates knowledge and sensitivity to patient's psychosocial, spiritual, cultural and age specific needs. He/she practices within the boundaries of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards and organizational/departmental policies and procedures. He/she is responsible for meeting JCAHO and Olathe Health standards of nursing practice.

What you will do Adheres to and/or maintains departmental policies and procedures, to be regulatory compliant with TJC, OSHA, safety standards, or other regulatory agencies. Demonstrates flexibility required to meet changing priorities. Maintains respectful working relationships with co-workers and encourages the team approach. Approaches work in a manner that makes quality improvement a part of every activity. Performs job duties in a manner to consistently improve the patient experience and minimize delays. Supportive of others involved in patient's care. Assists the patient and family with coordinating care to meet individual needs. Facilitates patient flow thru the department processes. Demonstrates organizational skills and plans ahead. Consistently demonstrates cost savings activities: Minimize supply waste. Demonstrates productive use of time. Offers suggestions for cost savings. Demonstrates knowledge of departmental information by: regularly attending staff meetings, reading email information, attending departmental in-service offerings, reading communication books, reviewing available literature and resource material. Able to respond to emergent situations in an effective manner and willing to cross-train to other areas / departments. Demonstrates appropriate and effective conflict resolution skills. Step 1: Addresses issues with individuals involved in a courteous and professional manner. Step 2: Escalates issues to appropriate Department Director, as necessary. Provides job duties in a manner to consistently improve the patient experience and minimize delays. Supportive of others involved in patient's care and assists with hourly rounding utilizing the "4 P's". Assist the patient and family with coordinating care to meet individual needs. Facilitates patient flow through the department processes. Demonstrates organizational skills and plans ahead.

Education Qualifications 2 Year / Associate Degree ADN - Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree BSN obtained within 3 years of hire - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in accordance with the Kansas Nurse Licensure Compact - Minimum - Due Upon Hire Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) - Minimum - Due Upon Hire Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Minimum - Due 120 Days from date of hire EEO Employer M/F/Disabled/Vet
