Garmin Senior Software Engineer in Olathe, Kansas
Garmin International seeks Senior Software Engineer (Olathe, KS; Multiple Positions): Under supervision of Team Lead, develops moderately complex software in Core Java, Spring MVC and other selected languages for Garmin products or applications, consistently following Garmin’s coding standards and in accordance with applicable software development methodology and release processes. Utilizes software engineering tools such as configuration management system, build processes and debuggers in the software development process. Completes well defined moderately complex tasks and/or projects. Creates and executes designs for small sets of new functionalities as part of the software project. May perform as a technical leader for simple software projects or projects of moderate complexity that may be derived largely from existing projects. Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions. Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques. Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems. Contributes to technical research on new technologies and participates in full software development lifecycle. Services a s a mentor to less experienced software engineers. Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology, offers suggestions to improve processes, and provides comments on some design aspects. Applies Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits a desire to see Garmin succeed. Works collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates in cross functional teams to achieve goals. Applies a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion. Reviews product and/or application information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy. Participates in product and/or application definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Computer or Software Engineering, CIS or related field plus five (5) years of experience in the software engineering or developer field.
Must have demonstrated ability to develop moderately complex software in Java, Spring Projects (technologies), Relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar).
Demonstrated competency with relevant software engineering tools (like version controls, object relational mapping tools, etc.) including configuration management systems, Build processes (like Maven, Ant or similar), Debuggers.
Demonstrated ability to capture and document software requirements.
In lieu of a Bachelor’s plus five years of experience, a Master’s plus three years of experience in the requirements noted above is acceptable. IND-DNP #LI-DNI
