Garmin Senior Design Engineer (Outdoor) in Olathe, Kansas

We are looking for a full-time Senior Design Engineer to join our Outdoor Team in Olathe, KS. Our Outdoor Team works on a wide variety of products ranging from wearables, golf, hiking, laser range finders, and more.

\n\n

In this role, you will design and develop moderately complex electronic circuits, test equipment, and systems for use in consumer products. You will lead electrical development; collaborating with other engineering disciplines, and with support from mentors and management. Other essential functions include:

\n\n

\n\t

  • Design, test, and supervise manufacturing of analog, digital and RF electrical systems for consumer electronics, including both printed and flexible circuit boards.

\n\t

  • Serve as a Project Engineer on new products that involve new designs or major changes to existing designs

\n\t

  • Teams with Production, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Software Engineering to ensure robust designs and efficient manufacturing

\n\t

  • Validate RF performance and make design adjustments as needed to ensure best performance. Manage tradeoffs between GNSS, Bluetooth/BLE, WiFi, NFC performance requirements

\n\t

  • Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments on electrical design aspects and other engineering areas

\n\t

  • Evaluate new technologies as they apply to existing functions

\n\t

  • Participate in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents

\n\t

  • Work closely with software engineering and IC manufacturers to bring up new processors, qualify new PMICs, memory, and other components

\n\t

  • Partner with Mechanical Engineers to design best PCB solution accounting for RF and space constraints

\n\t

  • Make substantial contributions toward determination of project goals/objectives feasibility

\n\t

  • Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Design Engineers

\n\t

  • Contribute to advanced technical research on new technologies

\n\t

  • Independently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problems

\n\t

  • Offer process improvement suggestions and author new procedures as appropriate

\n\t

  • Plan and develop experimental test programs to verify compliance to all applicable regulations and quality guidelines

\n\t

  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance specifications

\n\t

  • Support production facilities in the manufacture of products

\n\t

  • Interface with the Test Engineers and factory personnel on the testing and production of the products

\n

Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience. Other requirements include:

\n\n

\n\t

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

\n\t

  • Must demonstrate proficiency with a complicated schematic and PCB design consisting of one or more PCB’s

\n\t

  • Broad technical knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Electrical Engineering (e.g., analog, digital, RF, and/or DSP)

\n

\n\n

Extensive circuit design experience for consumer or aviation products is highly preferred!
