Garmin Senior Design Engineer - Outdoor in Olathe, Kansas

We are seeking for a full-time Senior Design Engineer to join our Outdoor Team for our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. Our Outdoor Team works on a wide variety of products ranging from wearables, golf, hiking, laser range finders, and more. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for complex analog, digital, and/or RF designs for products that are new for Garmin. \n\nEssential Functions\n\n\n\tServes in leadership capacity for carrying out complex design and development of analog, digital or RF designs for products that involve complicated schematics and PCB design consisting of one or more PCB’s\n\tMay serve as a Project Engineer on new projects that involve a new design or major changes to an existing design\n\tTeams with Production and Engineering to design the best PCB solutions accounting for thermal and space constraints and to turn on new processors along with ensuring robust designs and appropriate testability\n\tCollaborates and adds value through participation in design reviews\n\tValidate RF performance and make design adjustments as needed to ensure best performance. Manage tradeoffs between GNSS, Bluetooth/BLE, WiFi, NFC performance requirements\n\tOffers process improvement suggestions, authors new procedures, and provides technical input to product development plans and concept documents along with making substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility\n\tPlans and develops experimental test programs to verify compliance to all applicable regulations and quality guidelines using software tools and test equipment\n\tAnalyzes test data and reports to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance specifications and to determine if applicable to developing other systems\n\tInterfaces with the Test Engineers and factory personnel on the testing and production of products and support production facilities in the manufacture of products and directs and coordinates manufacture of prototype\n\tInvestigates, researches and evaluates the usage of the latest components and technologies and performs cost/performance tradeoff analysis of different circuit options\n Basic Qualifications \n\n\n\tBachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience\n\tExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)\n\tDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills\n\tDemonstrated proficiency with a complicated schematic and PCB design consisting of one or more PCB’s \n\tBroad technical knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Electrical Engineering (e.g., analog, digital, RF, and/or DSP)\n\n\nDesired Qualifications \n\n\n\tOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) \n\tExtensive circuit design experience for consumer or aviation products\n\n\n \n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
