Garmin Senior Data Engineer in Olathe, Kansas
We are seeking a full-time Data Engineer for our Olathe, KS location. As a data engineer on our Big Data team, you will build data centric solutions to study performance and patterns of millions of connected devices across the globe, ultimately contributing to business intelligence for new opportunities, product ideas and improvements. In addition, this position requires versatility, a drive to learn and pursue continuous improvement, a ruthless desire to automate tedious tasks, and the ability to work well in diverse, cross-functional, and virtual teams. Projects will range in duration and complexity, and they will require direct consultation with business partners, technical subject matter experts, and other software delivery teams.
Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
Conducts complex data analysis and develops reports to provide critical insights into Garmin’s connected device ecosystem
Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements to automate manual processes and optimize data delivery
Applies knowledge of data architecture to improve organization and efficiency of data systems
Participate in design, code, test, maintenance, enhance and decommission phases throughout the software life cycle to contribute technical expertise and to identify issues
Participate in and help guide research POCs, through data investigation and analysis
Provides significant contributions to defining team roadmap and priorities
Serve as a mentor and advisor to team members
Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation
Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another relevant field AND a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience OR equivalent years of experience
Experience with BI software systems such as QLIK, Tableau or MS Power BI.
Experience with Big Data Platforms such as Hadoop, Spark SQL, Cassandra, etc.
Experience with Relational DBs such as Big Table, MySQL, MS SQL Server, etc.
Experience developing ETL processes using tools such as SSIS, Informatica, or Alteryx
Experience with scripting languages such as Bash or Python
Experience with JAVA
Detail-oriented with a passion for digging into data
Experience with Spark and Scala
Experience with Container platforms such as PCF, Docker or Kubernetes
