Garmin Retail Technology Product Owner in Olathe, Kansas

We are seeking a Retail Technology Product Owner who will manage Garmin’s Retail Technology strategy and roadmap, including related implementations, enhancements, and security and compliance activities. In this role, you will gain an understanding of Garmin’s global retail footprint and help formulate technology strategy and manage IT initiatives. Leveraging that understanding, you will help formulate plans, configure, test, and implement solutions in support of the roadmap and strategy.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner with business stakeholders to determine Garmin’s retail roadmap and serve as functional subject matter expert for application/technology solutions and related business processes within IT

  • Coordinate Retail technology project definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs, engaging others from Security, Architecture, Infrastructure, ERP, Web teams as needed.

  • Gather, document and effectively communicate retail requirements.

  • Work closely with project team, including multiple stakeholders to ensure requirements are understood and deliverables are aligned with long-term business objectives as well as project objectives.

  • Assist in managing the vendor relationship, including managing vendor deliverables, ongoing assessment of this vendor against others in the marketplace, and periodic Quarterly Business Reviews.

  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques

  • Configure, test, and implement the retail POS software, with an eye for global standardization

  • Identify and manage issues leading up to and following retail technical initiatives.

  • Manage new feature requests and drive clarity of the status of those requests, this can span work to be completed by the vendor, the ERP team, infrastructure teams, or by oneself within retail POS software.

  • Ensure resources and projects are established to deliver the desired end state for Garmin.

  • Deliver program status and summary program information to all levels of the business including the executive level

  • Manage dependencies from other teams both business and IT

  • Collaborate directly with co-located and remote technical team members and business clients

  • Demonstrated capability to be a diplomat, interacting and negotiating with high-level business managers and stakeholders at varying levels of Garmin’s business

  • Motivates and drives accountability of project teams, other project managers and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of programs and projects, including coordination of resources assigned to projects for which he/she is responsible without direct authority

  • Actively participates in and encourages others to utilize creative and innovative approaches to accomplish tasks.

  • Demonstrates commitment to quality through knowledge of its precepts, skillful workplace applications and continuous organizational improvement.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another substantially similar field AND at least 2 years work experience performing a substantially similar role OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in a substantially similar role

  • Outstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge

  • Must demonstrate advanced proficient understanding of project management principles/methodologies and possesses a demonstrated ability to adapt PM practices to meet business climate and needs

  • Demonstrated experience with a proven track record in successful implementation of technology solutions

  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and changing environment

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a large team or departmental setting

  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others

  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Project management in an Agile environment

  • Retail technology experience

  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure and Security concepts and processes

  • Experience with and understanding of ERP/EDI concepts and processes

  • Experience with IT Quality and Release processes

  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), Payment Card Industry (PCI), Data Privacy or other compliance programs.

  • Experience successfully coordinating large scale globally based projects to move, add, and/or change aforementioned underlying technologies.
