Position Description: The Registered Respiratory Therapist performs respiratory care interventions in accordance with the standards established by the American Association of Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines and OMC Respiratory Care Policy. Under the supervision of the Director/Supervisor and upon a physician's order, the Registered Respiratory Therapist assesses the cardiopulmonary status of patients of all ages (neonate through geriatric) and provides various types of respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, based on individual patient needs. An integral function of this position is providing patient education to enhance wellness.
Minimum - 2 Year / Associate Degree - Respiratory Therapy in an accredited college or university Preferred - 4 Year / Bachelors Degree - Respiratory Therapy, Math, or Science Field
Minimum - Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program who has obtained the RRT credential Preferred - 1 - 3 Years - Working as an RRT in a hospital setting Preferred - 3 - 5 Years - Working as an RRT in a hospital setting; experience in adult critical care, neonatal care and emergency department patient care
Minimum - Analytical - Able to assess complicated patient care scenarios including subjective assessment and objective evaluation of a variety of data made available from monitors and test results Minimum - Ability to Multi Task and Prioritize - Able to assess the cardiopulmonary status of patients of all ages (neonate through geriatric) and provide various types of respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, based on individual patient needs Minimum - Ability to provide expert respiratory assistance in critical/emergent situations involving life support decisions and actions Preferred - Computer Systems (specify) - Specifically Cerner clinical software, Siemens RapidComm Blood Gas Lab software and Microsoft Office
Minimum - Respiratory Therapy Licensure by the state of Kansas - Upon Hire Minimum - Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association or American Red Cross ONLY) - Upon Hire Minimum - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) - Upon Hire Minimum - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification - Due 120 days from date of hire
Minimum - Demonstrates proficiency in administration of physician-prescribed aerosol medication therapy, oxygen therapy and appropriate airway humidity therapy - Upon Hire Minimum - Demonstrates proficiency in care and management of adult patients receiving mechanical ventilation - Upon hire Minimum - Demonstrates proficiency in application of noninvasive ventilation, adjusting therapy to best meet individual patient needs - Upon hire Minimum - Demonstrates proficiency in establishing and maintaining a patent airway in patients with and without artificial airways - Upon hire Minimum - Responds to urgent/emergency patient situations without delay (i.e. Code Blue, Medical Response Team call, patient in distress) - Upon hire Minimum - Demonstrates ability to recognize normal cardiac rhythm and basic and/or serious arrhythmias - Upon hire Minimum - Demonstrates proficiency in performing therapies with the goal of mobilizing respiratory secretions and improving spontaneous ventilatory efforts - Upon hire Minimum - Actively promotes weaning of patient from mechanical ventilation by using excellent patient assessment skills, critical thinking and excellent communication skills with other members of the health care team - Due 30 days from date of hire Minimum - Educates patients and family members about common lung diseases - Due 30 days from date of hire Minimum - Proficient in the application of capnography devices and interpretation of results - Due 30 days from date of hire Minimum - Demonstrates proficiency in assisting physician with therapeutic and basic diagnostic bronchoscopies.
