Olathe Medical Center Registered Nurse (RN) PRN - Surgical Services in Olathe, Kansas

We are looking for RN’s and ORT’s to join us as we grow our Surgery Department! Our Surgery expansion will support current and future technology in our new OR suites and OR Hybrid Room. Four new operating suites, equipped with modern technology and equipment, will be added, as well as a hybrid operating room. The expansion project is expected to be complete in summer of 2020.

Our Surgical Services department includes Surgery, Day Surgery/Preop, Open Heart and PACU.

Position Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to coordinate the interdisciplinary approach to patient care. He/she provides safe, therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. He/she integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families through the continuum of care. The RN collaborates with others to integrate assessment and input of the patient, family and the interdisciplinary team. He/she ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, preceptor, and mentor. Demonstrates leadership skills in decision-making and problem solving. The RN integrates and communicates knowledge and sensitivity to patient's psychosocial, spiritual, cultural and age specific needs. He/she practices within the boundaries of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards and organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

The Peri-anesthesia nurse is responsible for the pre / post procedure nursing care of patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures with or without anesthesia/sedation. This nurse cares for the patient during the admitting/preparation process and after surgery during the recovery/discharge process. The Peri-anesthesia nurse includes the following:

Pre-op Nurse – Pre-screens and validates previously collected information on the patient. Recognizes and manages identified problems to minimize delays or cancellations of the surgery or procedure. Completes preparation of patient for procedure or surgery. Has excellent IV skills.

PACU Nurse – Responsible for monitoring and providing post-anesthesia nursing care of the patient in the immediate post-operative period while the patient transitions to Phase II level of care, the inpatient setting, or to an intensive care setting. Excellent airway management and assessment skills of patients in an acute care setting. Assists anesthesiologist with invasive procedures.

Phase II Nurse – Responsible for the continuation of post-operative care and preparing the patient/family/significant other for care in the home

Position Requirements: Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree - Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required


Knowledge, Skills: Organizational and Verbal Communication skills, Assessment, Ability to Multi Task and Prioritize,Customer Relations and Critical Thinking/Reasoning skills

License, Registration and/or Certification (if applicable): Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in accordance with the Kansas Nurse Licensure Compact upon hire Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association or American Red Cross ONLY) Required within 7 days from date of hire Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
