Garmin Privacy and Corporate Counsel in Olathe, Kansas

We are looking a Privacy and Corporate Counsel who will be responsible for providing legal advice on a wide range of privacy, data protection and security-related legal and compliance issues, and will be reviewing advertising and marketing materials to ensure compliance with applicable laws. The selected candidate will spend approximately 50% of their time on privacy/data protection issues and approximately 50% of their time on advertising/marketing issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assisting in the development and management of Garmin’s external-facing privacy policies, cookie policies and related terms of use.

  • Assisting in the development and management of privacy and data protection related contracts, including Standard Contractual Clauses and data processing agreements.

  • Providing support to other members of Garmin’s global privacy and business teams, including in areas related to acquisitions and strategic partnerships.

  • Evaluating the potential impact of legislative and regulatory initiatives and proposals.

  • Collaborating with other members of Garmin’s global privacy and product teams to evaluate new products, applications and features to ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations.

  • Reviewing advertising and marketing materials to ensure compliance with applicable competition and advertising laws and mitigation of risk of claims

  • Understands and applies Garmin's Mission, Vision, Values & Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits a desire to see Garmin succeed

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned by the Assistant General Counsel - Corporate or other in-house counsel

  • Serves as a resource on other corporate and regulatory issues

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Law Degree from an ABA accredited law school

  • Admission to any state Bar and eligibility for admission to the Kansas Bar

  • Must possess a minimum of 2 years’ experience either in private practice or in-house

  • Must have experience applying U.S. and European privacy laws and regulations, including the GDPR, CCPA, COPPA, HIPAA and cookie regulations.

  • Experience in advertising and marketing laws is preferred but not required - training will be provided.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of Garmin’s business

  • Demonstrates an aptitude to learn and effectively apply legal knowledge in the business context

  • Must be detail-oriented, particularly in document drafting and review, with the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others

  • Demonstrates organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
