Terracon Intern in Olathe, Kansas
Terracon has an exciting new Intern position for the summer of 2019 supporting the Finance Department at our Corporate office in Olathe, KS. Terracon is an engineering consulting firm that performs numerous services including geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and observation, environmental services, and facilities engineering. In this paid internship role, you will actively participate in a fun working environment, while contributing in meaningful ways. You’ll acquire exposure to the accounting profession through various financial tracks at Terracon including Accounting/GL, Billing, Project Accounting, and Procure to Pay. The position will rotate approximately every two weeks throughout the 8-week summer internship to ensure the individual gains ample experience.
Some of the tasks performed as a Finance Intern will include:
Assist with period-end close (complete journal entries, perform financial statement analysis)
Complete general ledger balance sheet reconciliations
Work with Project Managers to capture all billable items and ensure proposed budget is met
Validate all rates and charges to provide accurate billing and ensure all rates are documented with signed contracts
Assist AR with US Bank Web Decisioning reconciliations
Use Oracle to apply cash receipts to open invoices
Go through a supplier contract review
Sit in on negotiations with suppliers
Complete a supplier spend analysis
In addition to gaining experience in the areas above the individual will work on a “master project” that spans the full internship. The “master project” will require interactions with colleagues throughout the company to fully understand details associated with the project and collect the data needed to present recommendations at the end of the internship.
Based on the intern’s performance during the internship, there is potential for a full-time job offer upon graduation or shortly thereafter.
Pursuing a Bachelor of Science/Business Administration of Science degree in Accounting or related field (preferably a Junior, Senior, or Master student)
Strong academic track record (minimum GPA of 3.0)
Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
Proven leadership skills demonstrating strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
