Garmin DevOps / Python Engineer 2 in Olathe, Kansas

We are looking for a full-time DevOps Engineer 2 to join the Core Technology Team at our world headquarters in the Kansas City area. The software engineer administers, develops and supports software engineering tools within Garmin's engineering group. . \n\n \n\nIn addition to designing new software and performing maintenance on existing products, devops engineers develop scripts in Python and Perl They also test software using debuggers, emulators and simulators; perform software releases and software quality assurance activities; and work collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates. Other essential functions include:\n\n\n\t\n\tCreate and maintain programs and scripts and automate routine tasks whenever possible\n\t\n\t\n\tSupport software engineering applications installations and upgrades\n\t\n\t\n\tSupport database-related needs for software engineering applications\n\t\n\t\n\tCollaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions \n\t\n\t\n\tEvaluate, integrate, administer and support new applications\n\t\n\t\n\tSupport monitoring and testing of software engineering applications\n\t\n\t\n\tSupport application server capacity planning, backups and other server-based activities\n\t\n\t\n\tSupport disaster recovery activities\n\t\n\t\n\tProvide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques \n\t\n\t\n\tPerform technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems \n\t\n\t\n\tServe as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1)\n\t\n\t\n\tEstimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments on some electrical design aspects\n\t\n\t\n\tApply Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed\n\t\n\n\n Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math or Physics or a technical field (such as CIS or IT) from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of one-year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. Other requirements include: \n\n\n\t\n\tMust possess a minimum 1 year of work experience\n\t\n\t\n\tExperience using Git and Gerrit (or similar source code manager)\n\t\n\t\n\tExperience with Jira and Confluence as well as Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems\n\t\n\t\n\tProficiency writing Python OR Perl scripts\n\t\n\t\n\tDemonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)\n\t \n\t\n\n\nDesirable Qualifications Include:\n\n\n\t\n\tHTML, Javascript or other related web technologies\n\t\n\t\n\tApache web server experience\n\t\n\t\n\tExperience with Artifact repository manager (Artifactory, Nexus, Archiva)\n\t\n\t\n\tRelational database experience (MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred)\n\t\n\t\n\tExperience developing in Java or C++\n\t\n\t\n\tDemonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)\n\t\n\n\n \n\n \n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
