Under the direction of the Airport Manager, the employee in this position is responsible for the day-to-day aircraft fueling and storage, working under the trade name Metro North Flight Support. This position will be responsible for basic daily record keeping as well as the actual performance of service tasks. Essential to this position is the ability to meet and serve the aviation needs of the public. The employee in this position is required to have considerable skill in operating airport equipment with complex controls. A basic knowledge of general aviation aircraft, their operations and limitations are required in this position.
The employee in this position will be required to work some nights and weekends on regular basis.
Airfield safety to include, inspection of pavement, lighting, and airfield markings.
Maintenance of airfield systems including lighting, navigation, communication, and pavement.
Operates and assists in the maintenance of all tools, equipment, machinery and vehicles utilized by airport including but not limited to all fuel trucks, ground power unit and aircraft tugs.
Responsible for quality assurance and accounting of all fuel products.
Responsible for accounting of all invoices and receipts for business transacted on the weekend and in the absence of the Administrative Assistant.
Operate fueling in strict accordance with fuel quality control program for all aviation fuels.
Maintain a satisfactory level of recurrent training to enhance line service procedures, customer service, airport safety, risk reduction via regulatory compliance and equipment operation safety.
Provides line service duties for based and transient aircraft which include:
Fueling of aircraft, marshalling and parking of aircraft, movement of aircraft in and out of hangars per customer requests, assists in aircraft starts with ground power units, services aircraft lavatories, cleans aircraft interiors and exteriors per customers requests, negotiating with customers to maximize fuel sales.
Executes and records sales transactions of fueling, oil and pilot supplies.
Communicates with incoming aircraft over Unicom radio and provides landing advisories and general airport traffic information.
General janitorial duties in terminal, maintenance building and community hangars.
Is responsible for either opening or closing the business office and service facility each day assigned.
Responsible for snow removal operations, including during the overnight hours.
Assists in the maintenance of buildings and equipment as required.
Grounds maintenance including; mowing, landscaping and chemical applications.
Other duties as deemed necessary or as assigned by the Airport Manager.
Experience: One year of experience in Airport Line Service operations including experience operating and maintaining airport service equipment and vehicles, preferred. Prefer experience in the safe ground handling of general aviation aircraft. Any equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered. Knowledge of materials and techniques used for aircraft se vices is preferred. Skill in use of tools, equipment and methods necessary to perform various labor, maintenance and repair tasks.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Vocational training preferred. Possession of valid Kansas drivers license is necessary, as use of a vehicle will be required in the completion of work assignments.
Skills: Ability to communicate in English clearly and effectively both orally in person, on the phone, on the radio and in written form. Ability to distinguish colors by sight in all lighting situations. Ability to operate manual transmission heavy equipment and machinery. Ability to use hand tools, portable power tools, and equipment needed in building or equipment maintenance and repair work.
Decision Making: Decision making is a factor in this position. Ability to anticipate or determine the need for aircraft service operations.
Problem Solving: Problem solving is a factor in this position. Ability to detect malfunctions concerning vehicle and fueling systems and assemblies and call supervisor for assistance.
Accountability: Employee is not responsible for budgetary control of the department and does not participate in the annual department budget process.
