Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Synchrony Credit PayPal and Venmo team is looking for a project manager and communicator responsible for owning the risk committee structure for both clients. This role will own oversight of all client actions taken on Synchrony’s behalf and require a project manager that can work through challenges to execute outcomes. Organization and attention to detail will be integral to the success of the role.

This position is remote, where you have the option to work from home. On occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage compliance risk issue management process; ensuring operational risk issues with compliance defects are reported and action plans are executed according to Synchrony Financial policy

  • Reinforce Credit Management accountability and work with business functional owners to implement process enhancements through surveillance over high risk processes

  • Execute on ongoing evaluation of CTC (Critical to Compliance) Risk requirements to ensure controls are adequate and work with business teams to mitigate any compliance risks

  • Effectively communicate project status, issues and recommendations to senior leadership team, auditors, clients, vendors and other key stakeholders

  • Administer PayPal and Venmo risk management committee, including strategy operating groups and collections and modeling steering committees

  • Ensure adherence to program model risk management procedures

  • Ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures including PayPal specific procedures

  • Monitor program risk appetite tolerances, and application of Pool B receivables.

  • Work with the credit strategy and data governance teams to ensure compliance with strategy review and approvals across all platforms

  • Establish and maintain surveillance processes and standards for the PayPal and Venmo acquisition platform, including adverse action notification

  • Support surveillance process activity across credit functions and report issues and monitor remediation

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


  • Bachelor Degree with 5 + years consumer finance experience or in lieu of a degree, 9+ years consumer finance experience

  • 3+ years’ experience in a project management and/or people management experience

  • 3+ years’ ‘experience with credit card application and/or account management systems

  • 1+ years ‘compliance/regulatory experience

Desired Characteristics:

  • Previous experience managing a team or other demonstrated ability to manage others

  • Excellent communication skills-interpersonal, verbal, and written

  • Working knowledge of Genasys, SynApps, Edison, Surveyor, FDR, GECOM, EDGE, IDP reporting, AFP On Demand, SAS, CDCI and Commercial data warehouses

  • Strong analytical, risk management, and problem solving skills

  • Ability to gather, analyze and summarize data in clear and concise manner and report findings to senior management

  • Strong compliance, audit or control function background, with specific understanding of internal controls

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects, organize workflow, and prioritize work assignments

  • Knowledge of Risk, Fraud, and Underwriting processes

  • Creative problem solver

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Excellent work ethic and able to work well with broad and diverse global teams

  • Deep, up-to-date knowledge of regulatory compliance of the financial services sector to drive improvements

  • Imagination and creativity in applying / adapting best practices and learnings to new problems/needs

  • Ability to work and influence within a global matrix organization

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).

The salary range for this position is 85,000.00 - 170,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.
