Synchrony AVP, Reliability Engineer in MERRIAM, Kansas

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Synchrony Digital Servicing team needs an energetic and detail-oriented Reliability Engineer for some of our most critical customer facing systems. The AVP, Reliability Engineer is an experienced full stack technologist who enjoys hands-on application design and architecture, with a focus on system reliability and resilience. The ideal candidate will have software engineering expertise with a passion for DevOps and an unrelenting drive to improve, coupled with a willingness to challenge the status quo. This AVP will lead the development and production support of Synchrony’s customer facing web sites and native applications.

This position is remote, where you will work from home, and may require you to occasionally commute to one of our offices for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Influence many agile development teams through all phases of the Agile development life cycle through SAFE.

  • Implement new technologies and assist developers as they migrate to new technologies

  • Architect applications across the full stack, experience in PCF, Cloud Native Application Architecture, Microservices ecosystem, J2EE, Spring Java, and RESTful API’s are a must.

  • Design data models to support complex business processes.

  • Drive a CI/CD strategy using our Jenkins, Bitbucket, and uDeploy stack.

  • Influence and collaborate with software developers, UX designers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts to create amazing web apps.

  • Ensure compliance with architecture, security and technology standards set by Synchrony Financial

  • Assist in crafting and maintaining the future state technology architectural strategy, along with our application modernization and migration roadmap.

  • Participate in Agile scrums consisting of cross-functional teams

  • Ensure application code quality through development, test, and QA

  • Participate in addressing root cause analyses, incident reports and provide direction in problem resolution

  • Ability to analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixes

  • Research the latest technologies, open source projects and languages.

  • Provide 24x7 on-call support periodically throughout the year

  • Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance

  • Work with third party vendors to develop software and/or integrate their software into the company's products

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 5 years of software development or solution architecture experience.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience building and consuming web services via SOAP and REST

  • Experience with continuous integration environments

  • Experience with writing unit, integration, and UI test cases

  • Deep experience with responsive web design principles and cross device support

  • Strong experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry

  • Experience using Splunk for production support

  • Working knowledge of the overall mobile industry

  • Desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment

  • Experience developing and supporting financial/banking applications

  • Strong attention to detail in a team environment

  • Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must have at least a “consistently meets expectations” performance rating and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance requirement).

The salary range for this position is 70,000.00 - 150,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.
