Location/Division Specific Information

Unity(tm) Lab Services is a business segment that supports the Customer Channels Group, which provides critical outsourced on-site services at customer locations.

This position is in McPherson, KS.

This position is primarily passionate about Order Management. This position will apply the sophisticated functionality of systems and applications such as: RIMS, Mainframe, SAP and the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Customer interface interpersonal skills are required. It is also encouraged that this position will have an understanding of performance metrics, and the ability to collect vital data pertaining to individuals or team activities. Data integrity and attention to detail are paramount.

A Day in the Life:

  • Follows well defined procedures as outlined by Best Practices, SOP’s & work instructions. Take direction from Site Supervisors (and Team Lead) regarding daily duties.

  • Makes decisions and applies available resources to meet customer requirements, independently.

  • Analyzes/maintains/reconciles various customer and Fisher reports to ensure customer and Fisher requirements are met.

  • Demonstrates proficiency at collecting, communicating and explaining job or site specific performance metrics.

  • Communicates with supervisor any customer issues or potential problems and may help identify solutions. Promotes personal growth and development by staying abreast of new policies and improvements without the presence of site trainer and management team.

  • Listens to customer concerns, effectively diffuses dissatisfaction, and quickly identifies course of action with a goal of first call resolution within established turnaround times

  • Works effectively with a diverse cross-functional team.

  • Adopts Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodologies.

  • Access & apply Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Intranet and SharePoint document management system.

  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific at all times throughout customer locations, professionally and positively.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Keys to Success:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.

  • 0-1 years experience preferred

  • Maintains Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Four-I Values.

  • Must possess a strong desire to serve the customer, and the social skills to take care of various levels of personnel at the customer site.

  • Must be customer focused to deliver excellent customer service including maintaining a professional appearance at all times.

  • Must possess the operating skills to use hand held scanners and learn to enter data in various systems as necessary.

  • Must possess the organizational skills to multi-task and meet deadlines as needed.

  • Must possess strong analytical skills to reconcile various reports to ensure customer requirement are met, and to collect, present and explain job or site specific performance metrics.

  • Must be proficient with a computer and the Microsoft Office suite of software.

Working Conditions:

  • Works primarily at customer locations, in office environment to include cubicles and/or in and around shipping/receiving docks, stock rooms, storage locations and laboratory environments

  • May be required to work independently at customer location.

  • May be able to use material handling equipment such as push carts and pallet jacks.

  • Depending on area of building, personal protective equipment may be worn to include steel-toed shoes, lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets and/or safety gloves.

  • May pass through areas where chemical based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc.)

  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
