Hanesbrands, Inc. Technical Design Manager in Manhattan, Kansas
The primary role of this position is to facilitate and lead the technical product development of Champion Teamwear as related to fit, quality, and construction.
This position is located in Manhattan, KS.
Leads the technical product development team to ensure all product meets Champion product specifications.
Assists technical designers, assistants, fabric and color analysts, and interns in training and development.
Meets product development deadlines, prioritizes appropriately, deals well with change and maintains composure under pressure.
Communicates potential risks in product development tasks and deadlines and proactively looks for ways to resolve problems and issues.
Schedules and leads fit sessions with the use of live models and dress forms.
Interprets and applies the knowledge of design, fabrics, trims to garment construction.
Creates fit comments and communicates fit corrections to overseas vendors and manufacturers.
Adjusts patterns for fit and construction changes, using flat pattern-making skills, draping, and/or pattern software.
Provides input to design and sourcing teams regarding cost engineering.
Approves quality for all trims and develops trims in partnership with design and costing departments.
Notifies suppliers and factories of construction quality issues and provides recommendations on how to correct construction issues.
Ensures pre-production samples are approved on time to meet required deadlines for new product.
Creates and updates specification packages, ensuring the accuracy of details.
Ensures quality of newly developed product regarding fit and construction meet internal and external customer satisfaction requirements.
Ensures products are developed for commercialization needs.
Initiate’s product testing and advises when further testing is required.
Communicates with the Ultrafuse scaling team when new patterns are available for scaling.
Collaborates with the Champion product & attribution department to ensure product can be successfully embellished.
Maintains an understanding of the Champion Teamwear customer, apparel industry and sports trends, as well as requirements for high school sports team uniforms.
Mentors employees by coordinating and providing personal development experiences and job skills training.
Complete position specific training plan and engage in continuous development utilizing a developmental plan.
Supports design, inventory planning, logistics and other departments as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in an apparel related field required.
At least 7 years of experience in product development or technical design.
1-2 years of Supervisor experience
Experience communicating with overseas production partners.
Patternmaking and grading experience, in-depth knowledge of fit and construction.
Knowledge of safety standards for children’s apparel.
Knowledge of industry standards for quality and testing procedures.
Excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional partners.
Solutions-oriented problem solving skills.
Organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks and reports within deadlines.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to see the big picture while managing numerous details.
Must be an inspiring team player and partner.
Flexible to changing deadlines, agendas, and projects.
PC skills including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, PLM, Gerber PDS. Intermediate skill level in Excel.
