This position is for a BSL-2 laboratory Research Associate, whose primary responsibility is to conduct diagnostic and research-related laboratory activities needed for the test, implementation, improvement, development and validation of bioinformatics workflows and pipelines as directed by the Section Head, with primary focus on NGS dry lab work. The position requires the individual to display critical thinking, independent judgement, and the ability to organize information. Job responsibilities include the operation and completion of complex, multi-step bioinformatics workflows including, but not limited those required for NGS data download and management, raw and processed NGS data analysis, de novo assembly, reads mapping to reference genomes, pathogen identification, taxonomic assignment, molecular phylogeny and phylodynamics, genomic epidemiology, genomic surveillance, among others. Run complete NGS workflows involving data analysis and interpretation for veterinary diagnostics, using data generated from multiple NGS platforms and instruments, such as but not limited to Illumina, Oxford Nanopore and PacBio. - Master\'s degree and two years of relevant experience.
\ Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD Degree in bioinformatics, molecular biology, molecular virology, veterinary microbiology, computer sciences or related field.
- Competent computer skills
- Strong background and experience in molecular/bioinformatics laboratory, NGS tools and workflows applied to molecular veterinary diagnostics sequencing data analysis from platforms like Illumina, Oxford Nanopore and Pac io.
- Advanced/proficient experience with coding languages and systems such as those listed below, but not limited to them: Bash scripting, Python, NextFlow, Perl, Linux, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, C/C++.
- Previous experience with the analysis of large NGS files and datasets, pathogen identification, phylodynamics, molecular epidemiology, transcriptomics, microbial genomics.
- Experience developing coding-based bioinformatics pipelines and workflows.
