About This Role:
The Chapman Center for Rural Studies is hiring for a part-time Office Specialist II. The work of the office specialist is a mixture of duties in support of the Center’s Executive Director including the supervision of student support staff. Some of the essential functions of this position are general oversite of all Center accounts in the College and in the University Foundation, Purchasing, Budget projection, HCS liaison, month-end, and annual expense reports, monitoring paid time and leave, developing project benchmarks for student workers, arranging travel, writing training materials, digitization of files and conducting annual inventory. Composes office correspondence, answers questions from the public, maintains the Center’s calendar, and main webpage.
The Chapman Center for Rural Studies is committed to researching, preserving, and sharing the history of rural Kansas. Through the establishment of a research lab, archives, curriculum, and publications the Chapman Center will link the community of learners at Kansas State University with the communities of the past. The stories and lives of all peoples who shaped the history of this region are significant; and as a premier land-grant institution, Kansas State University supports and encourages the recovery of lived experience, lost towns and settlements, original lands, and changing landscapes. An important objective of the Center is the creation of a website storing histories of lost towns that are easily accessible by the internet. The Chapman Center is committed to continually adding to and upgrading the site with the goal of listing most Kansas lost towns.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- One year of relevant experience
- Two years of experience in an administrative support position
- Demonstrated ability in performing highly detailed tasks, including manipulating spreadsheets and data entry
- Demonstrated ability in operating computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, and scanners
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
