About This Role:

Extension Specialist/Assistant Professor of Fisheries and Aquaculture (50% extension/30% research/20% teaching) with expertise in applied fisheries management, pond management, and aquaculture.

Duties/Responsibilities:

EXTENSION:

• Develop and maintain an innovative, proactive statewide extension program that addresses priority needs in pond management and aquaculture across the state of Kansas.
• Create educational materials and conduct outreach and training efforts that focus broadly on fisheries management for small impoundments and aquaculture. Responsibilities include the development of educational programs on pond management, applied fisheries management, and aquaculture, to support stakeholders involved in natural resource management, livestock production, and aquaculture. The educational programs will be delivered through workshops, publications, websites, county-level extension professionals, social media, and other venues as appropriate.
• Provide in-service training for county-level extension professionals and direct outreach to stakeholders as needed. The incumbent is expected to work closely with public agencies and other natural resource management organizations as appropriate.

RESEARCH:

• Develop a nationally-recognized, externally-funded research program in fisheries management, aquaculture, aquaponics, or related areas, that supports M.S. and Ph.D students.
• Publish research in peer-reviewed, national and international journals.
• Contribute to graduate education by serving as major professor to 1-2 graduate students, serving on graduate committees, and publishing results with graduate students.

TEACHING:

• Teach 1-2 undergraduate courses per year, such as Pond and Sportfish Management, Fauna and Flora of the Great Plains, or other courses as needed.
• Contribute to student recruitment, advising, and professional development of Wildlife and Outdoor Enterprise Management (WOEM) undergraduate students.
• Serve as advisor or co-advisor of the WOEM Club.

SERVICE:

• Serve on departmental, college, and university committees as needed. Participation in service associated with applied fisheries and wildlife management is expected, including involvement with professional organizations.

What You\'ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Applicant should have earned Ph.D. degree by the date of employment in wildlife management, natural resources management, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

Extension and/or research background demonstrating expertise in fisheries management, pond management, and aquaculture.

Evidence of potential to secure external funding for applied research.

Demonstrated ability to publish research in peer-reviewed journals.
