\ \ Assistant Professor\ \ Department: 3670020120 Geology\ Job no: 516293\ Employment type: Academic / Faculty - 9 month\ Location: Manhattan, Kansas\ Worksite: On-site requirement\ Categories: Education / Instructional\ Pay Grade: 001\ \ \ About This Role:\ The Department of Geology at Kansas State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sedimentology, beginning August 2024.\ \ We seek an enthusiastic and versatile geoscientist able to contribute to our growing bachelor\'s and master\'s degree programs. The position requires excellence in teaching and mentoring, professional and scholarly achievements, and a commitment to service to the Department and the University. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program, supervise graduate and undergraduate theses, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.\ \ The successful applicant will ideally carry out research in the broad area of sedimentary geology and/or stratigraphy. Anticipated areas of specialization could include carbonate or clastic sedimentology, depositional environments, basin analysis, sequence stratigraphy, sedimentary facies, and/or diagenesis. Research that interfaces with the broad area of the energy transition (e.g., groundwater / geothermal systems, carbon or hydrogen sequestration, etc.) is desirable, as is the ability to combine field skills with a broad range of analytical methods to quantify geologic processes. The new faculty member will be expected to teach our undergraduate course in Sedimentology and Stratigraphy and develop upper level undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialty; they will also be expected to supervise research students in this area of geoscience.\ \ Why Join Us:\ The Department of Geology (http://www.ksu.edu/geology) currently includes 12 faculty members, and a vibrant and growing undergraduate and master\'s program. Existing research strengths include: geochemistry, geophysics, geodynamics, groundwater and surface-water hydrology, geomicrobiology, isotope geochemistry, economic geology, geochronology, surficial processes, structural geology, and igneous petrology.\ \ We currently occupy an attractive older building and continue to implement an ongoing program of renovation to modernize laboratory and classroom space. Moreover, the university is also actively pursuing new facilities that will provide the space our department needs to continue to grow. We have a supportive alumni group who help to provide scholarships, research and travel funds for our students. Opportunities for collaboration within the university exist with faculty members in the departments of Geology, Biochemistry, Biology, Agronomy, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geography & Geospatial Sciences.\ \ The programs in the College of Arts and Sciences are central to K-State\'s historic and present missions.
