Kansas State University Libraries Assistant Professor (Flute) in Manhattan, Kansas

About This Role:

Primary responsibilities are to teach applied undergraduate and graduate flute students, direct the Flute Ensemble, and teach the flute portion of a woodwind techniques course. This faculty member must be active as a performer, both on- and off-campus, including serving as a member of the Konza (faculty) Wind Quintet, and is expected to recruit and maintain a successful studio. Additional duties may be assigned as required.

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is accredited by NASM and NAST and is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the “intellectual and academic core of the University” with 23 academic units. A land-grant institution, Kansas State University is a Carnegie “very high research” and “engaged” university with more than 4,000 students who participate in curricular and co-curricular activities offered through the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

Manhattan, Kansas, where Kansas State is located, is in the rolling Flint Hills of Northeast Kansas, 125 miles west of Kansas City via Interstate 70. Minimum Requirements:

  • Earned doctorate (ABD candidates will be considered) in music or commensurate professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced flute teacher for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Active flute performer on and off campus.

Salary Range/ Pay Rate:

$55,000-$60,000 - Salary is commensurate with experience, qualifications and start-up fund support.
