Job summary

This position is responsible for helping member hospitals receive meaningful and actionable data and analysis from Insurance Services data toolsets. The position provides analytic leadership to support Insurance Services initiatives, manages systems and processes to consistently produce dynamic reporting, and effectively communicates internally and externally to engage and demonstrate value of the insurance services data programs.

Oversight for Insurance Services Analytics Programs and Reporting

  • Provides oversight and directs teams to ensure effective operational support of Insurance Services data toolsets

  • Enhances and implements analytics products and reports to increase value received by children’s hospitals

  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with children’s hospitals, project stakeholders, internal staff and vendors to further analytics opportunities

  • Effectively manages vendors providing back-office support for data tools or submitting children’s hospital data

  • Serves as liaison to data warehouse partner in providing input on improving data tools and content

  • Researches industry publications and case studies relating to process improvements with respect to health benefit plans and programs

  • Learns from member hospital successes and develop effective methods for spreading the knowledge

  • Manages product deliverable to meet timelines and exceed member satisfaction

  • Remains abreast of the dynamic, competitive insurance environment, new and complex insurance initiatives, appropriate data analysis techniques and constantly changing legislation that governs business

Data Analysis, Consultation, and Presentation

  • Executes and participates in all aspects of data and analytics implementation and delivery including research, plan design, data collection, analysis, interpretation and report development to support various Insurance Services projects

  • Uses a variety of statistical concepts to analyze different business situations

  • Serves as analytics expert to help effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences

  • Develops opportunity-driven analyses and content for children’s hospitals and other audiences for financial or operational improvement work

  • Consults with children’s hospitals and Insurance Services team through identification and analysis of actionable analytics to promote use of data tools that promote the health and productivity of children’s hospital employees

  • Partners with internal and external stakeholders to expand children’s hospital uses and users of data products and services

  • Partners to create presentations and other communication that support using Insurance Services data to understand variance across children’s hospitals and individual improvement opportunities

Program Responsibilities

  • Oversees strategy and daily operations of benefits data warehouse

  • Understands the value proposition of each data source to develop integration strategies within Insurance Services

  • Manages user experience and training

  • Maintains and enhances reporting strategy to provide an exceptional user experience

  • Maintains and enhances user training program

  • Manage data quality and improvements

  • Maintains and improves data content for consistent and accurate metrics

  • Manages work groups to improve data content and use

  • Leads the implementation of onboarding hospitals; creates/tracks project timelines, providing support and resources to clarify specific requirements for execution of deliverable

Customer Service and Membership Engagement

  • Identifies children’s hospitals’ business challenges and solutions using CHA’s and/or data warehouse partner data assets

  • Provides appropriate follow-up to ensure children’s hospital needs are met through e-mail, phone conversations and materials

  • Participates in site visits and CHA events to foster member relationships through presentations, conversations and vendor-related opportunities

  • Increases value received by children’s hospitals

  • Provides support that engages hospital users in CHA programs

  • Develops innovative enhancements, reports, and studies

  • Provides comparative data visualization that clearly communicates metrics and action

  • Creates children’s hospital case studies for executives, hospital visits and affinity groups that expand uses and users

Managerial Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads direct reports with an understanding of how dynamics, personalities and talents work together to build a strong team

  • Coaches, mentors and actively engages in professional development of staff by providing or supporting opportunities to broaden and enrich roles

  • Exhibits integrity while building trust and rapport with staff to encourage honest conversations, conflict resolution and the appreciation of diversity. Fosters a spirit of teamwork and collaboration that results in better work

Required Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare, technology or related field is required; master’s degree preferred.

Experience and Special Skills:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in an analytical, operational, or financial decision support position; healthcare experience required

  • Strong ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience

  • Ability to lead/manage individuals and teams

  • Ability to independently plan and manage deliverables to ensure data products are provided timely and with relevant user applicability

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, problem-solving and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of relational database technology and project management methodologies

  • Familiarity with medical and pharmacy claims and coding (ICD9/10, CPT4, DRGs and MDCs, NDCs, etc.)

  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with SQL

  • Intermediate Tableau skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Personal computer knowledge including Microsoft Office suite and database report writing (not programming)

  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Physical requirements

  • Extensive periods of sitting and keyboard/computer work

  • Communicates in person and over the phone

  • May on occasion be required to lift packages up to 25 lbs.

  • Travel: Up to 10%
