    Job Summary

    Obtain new and ongoing work for P1 Group Inc.’s Controls Department by prospecting and establishing relationships with potential buyers of Building Automation Systems installation, maintenance, and repair services. This position is an outside sales position, covering both our Kansas City market and our Wichita market with time-spent split between those markets.

    Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prospect for new business with commercial, institutional, and industrial building owners, property managers, owner’s representatives (Architects / Engineers), and General Contractors.

  • Create positive working relationships and maintain regular contact with assigned accounts and potential clients.

  • Build partnering relationships with existing and potential decision makers regarding building automation system installation, maintenance, and repair work.

  • Develop and execute business plans for defined targets. Include methods, contact personnel and short and long-term goals for work. Ensure consistency with P1 Group Inc. overall business plan and market strategy.

  • Identify customer’s operational and environmental objectives, needs and requirements. Actively listen, probe and identify concerns. Clarify P1 Group Inc.’s capabilities and expertise and provide strategic technical solutions.

  • Proactive sales of Preventive Maintenance service agreements to our existing customer base.

  • Work with internal P1 Group Inc. Controls Division team to create competitive, high-quality, and timely estimates and proposals. Negotiate value, address resistance and ‘close’ the sale.

  • Assist with creating and making marketing presentations that showcase P1 Group Inc.’s character, resources and capabilities.

  • Seek in-house technical advice and support whenever necessary. Ensure each proposal satisfies the customer’s scope of service and P1 Group Inc.’s standards.

  • Maintain positive relations with P1 Group Inc.’s Service and Construction Operations personnel.

  • Track renewal dates on maintenance contracts. Ensure customer satisfaction and positive account status prior to contract expiration.

  • Act as the customer’s advocate when performance or billing issues arise.

  • Monitor sales activities and adjust to market changes as necessary and as directed.

  • Keep supervisor informed of progress, account status and new sales leads.

  • Actively assist in the collection process for all assigned accounts.

  • Attend and present at relevant trade shows.

  • Promote P1 Group Inc.’s various offerings where practicable. Communicate potential opportunities to supervisor.

  • Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.


  • Education:

  • Four-year degree in relevant field, with strong emphasis on business and marketing or an equivalent amount of technical training and practical experience.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years building automation sales, engineering, design, or related experience in a marketing and/or estimating position.

  • Existing contacts in local construction and building owner community is preferred.

  • Other Qualifications:

  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a motor vehicle record check. Must be able to meet P1 Group qualifications to operate a vehicle on company business. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have access to drive a well maintained vehicle. Must have up to date registration with the local Department of Motor Vehicles. Both the candidate and the vehicle must be currently covered on a personal insurance policy.

  • Fluent in Microsoft applications and customer relationship management software

    Working Conditions and Physical Efforts

  • Travel Requirements: >80%

  • Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.

  • Work environment involves some exposure to construction, mechanical and electrical-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

  • Moderate physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds and extensive standing and walking.

  • Work requires local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations.

  • Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and scaffolds and to negotiate work areas under construction.
