Job Description:

70% Teach, as scheduled, courses in Visual Art.

20% Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute to teach class. Classes should not be canceled. Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students and assign grades.

10% Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught. Office hours should be divided over at least two days. The lecturer should be available for reasonable appointments if a student cannot meet during scheduled office hours. Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.

Required Qualifications:

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through:

(1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:

  1. MFA, MA, or other advanced degree in related field, OR

  2. BA or BFA in related field with 2-5 years of professional experience in the needed area of specialization, OR

  3. Two (2) or more years of distinguished* teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Distinguished is defined as a lengthy and notable or prominent record of mastery in teaching at an accredited institution, as defined by peer evaluation, course evaluation, and/or supervisor evaluation.

*For instructors in visual and/or performing arts, a distinguished record of exhibition and/or performance in an artistic genre appropriate to the target subject. Distinguished is defined as a lengthy and notable or prominent record of artistic work in nationally or internationally recognized venues.

Position Overview:

The Department of Visual Art at the University of Kansas seeks individuals qualified to teach part- to full-time courses in the areas of Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Textiles, Visual Art Education, Metalsmithing/Jewelry, Expanded Media (Performance Art, Installation Art) and Ceramics, as well as special topics courses in related areas. The Lecturer pool is for non tenure-track positions and is updated every year. We accept applications at any time, and make appointments in mid-to-late spring semester for the following academic year (or at other times when teachers are needed to fill unexpected vacancies).

The successful applicant must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.
