Job Description:
50% - Match and identify colors, sheens and types. Uses appropriate professional technique to apply paint, lacquer, varnish, stain, etc., to surfaces as assigned. Uses brushes, rollers, mechanical spraying equipment, etc., as needed for job – walls ceilings, floors, both interior and exterior. Applies bonding primers in a variety of applications. Reads and works from blueprints. Performs custom work with specialized commercial applications or vinyl wall coverings.
20% - Tapes, base coats, and finishes drywall surfaces using finish knives and trowels, sanding to proper degree between coats. Applies various sheetrock textures as assigned or appropriate to the project. Completes professional-quality repairs to sheetrock, wood, plaster, concrete block, brick, and other surfaces prior to finishing. This may include performance of professional carpentry or masonry techniques. Replasters as necessary and mixes plaster, mortar, and other masonry components to match existing texture on surfaces. Repairs, strips, refinishes and/or prepares wood surfaces, trim, etc. Performs other related duties as needed to complete project assignments.
10% - Reviews work assignment, estimates materials, and prepares or directs others in preparation of interior and exterior surfaces for application of finishes (paint, varnish, stain, wallcovering, laminate, etc.). Scrapes and sands surfaces, removes loose paint and surface materials, strips wallpaper, fills holes and surfaces, cleans and primes surfaces, performs necessary skilled craft work prior to finish application. 10% - Sets-up and operates all scaffolding equipment including stationary and mobile scaffolds, stages, ladders, and walk planks as appropriate. Works safely from varying heights. Performs related preparatory and clean-up work per project to minimize down-time and maintain most effective use of all employee time on project. Performs other related work as assigned.
10% - Provides on-the-job training for other employees (painters, students, less-skilled staff) on projects. Reviews and approves finished work for quality control purposes. Performs or assigns corrective measures for any observed deficiencies.

Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or completion of G.E.D. equivalency.
Three years of experience in commercial painting. Certificate of completion from a vocational school or an associate' s degree in this trade area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Demonstrated ability to mix paints to match, blend, harmonize and contrast colors, tints and shades.
Demonstrated ability to prepare/maintain estimates records and reports.
Position Overview:
The Painter Senior position involves planning and directing activities of a crew, providing on-the-job training, and managing project operations involving the performance of a variety of skilled painting tasks. Work involves performance of routine-to-complex painting within the trade using a variety of applications and materials involving a very broad variety of surfaces - indoors and/or outside. Highly complex and skilled knowledge required when applying and updating surfaces in restoration of older or historic facilities and high-profile areas or buildings. This position may plan and direct the activities of less skilled painters and/or students.
