Job Description:

Student Engagement (50%)

  • Guide prospective students and families through the admission process including information about the overall college decision process, the value of studying in the liberal arts and sciences, and potential outcomes for both their academic field of study and liberal arts and sciences overall.

  • Coordinate and conduct daily one-on-one campus visits with prospective students and their families.

  • Deliver daily group presentations on the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and Pre-Health, may also include presentations on specific academic areas in the College such as the Legal Education Accelerated Degree program (LEAD) and School of the Arts (SOTA).

  • Attend local, regional, and national recruitment fairs as a representative of the College at KU, as well as high school visits and other recruiting opportunities.

Development of outreach strategies (30%)

  • Use prospective student data to inform outreach strategies to students, guardians, high school counselors, and community college representatives.

  • Collaborate with the communications team of the Assistant Director, Assistant Dean, and the College’s Dean’s Office to assist in the development of email communications and print materials, as well as other marketing needs.

  • Develop and implement recruitment events for prospective College students - both on and off campus.

  • Continuously review and assess effectiveness of outreach initiatives regarding benchmarks set by the College’s Dean’s Office and Strategic Enrollment Management to increase enrollment in the College.

Building relationships and collaboration (15%)

  • Work with campus partners, including but not limited to the University Career Center, Academic Success, Jayhawk Academic Advising, College Undergraduate Academic Services, KU Edwards campus, and the Office of Admissions to promote the value of the liberal arts & sciences and raise awareness of the academic programs in the College.

  • Develop and cultivate partnerships with faculty/staff in assigned departments to create recruitment and outreach assets highlighting academic programs.

  • Network with high school counselors to ensure their students have what they need to successfully transition to KU.

  • Connect with area community colleges, including but not limited to, Kansas City Kansas Community College, Metropolitan Community College, and Johnson County Community College to communicate transfer student pathways for academic programs in the College.

  • Participate in recruitment events hosted by the Office of Admissions on and off campus throughout the year.

Contributing to the Communications & Outreach team (5%)

  • Participate in Recruitment & Outreach team meetings to offer feedback and support other Outreach Coordinators, Assistant Director, and Assistant Dean in their work.

  • Employ a critical lens in evaluating recruitment and outreach practices to gauge effectiveness in alignment with promoting college access and supporting students’ decision processes.

  • Collaborate with other Outreach Coordinators to fulfill shared duties and foster an inclusive and engaging working environment.

  • Oversee and engage with College Student Ambassador program, including hiring, training, and facilitating check-ins throughout the academic year.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree at time of appointment.

  2. Valid driver's license by time of appointment.

  3. At least one year of work experience related to student engagement either in a university, high school, or community college setting, as demonstrated by application materials.

  4. Experience working and making decisions independently while equally being able to work in teams and collaborate, as demonstrated by application materials.

  5. Experience in planning events as evidenced by work history and application materials.

  6. Demonstrated excellent verbal and interpersonal communications skills, as evidenced by letter of application and information from references.

  7. Demonstrated strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe design, e-mail and internet for writing, or research and correspondence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from KU College of Liberal Arts or other Liberal Arts Institution

  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills as evidenced by application materials

  3. Experience with CRM technology and enrollment management.

  4. Experience at managing multiple detail-oriented projects or tight deadlines.

  5. Demonstrated experience establishing excellent working relationships with a variety of audiences.

Position Overview:

The KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is seeking an Outreach Coordinator responsible for the recruitment and outreach to prospective undergraduate freshmen and transfer students to the College and School of the Arts. The Outreach Coordinator works with prospective KU students, and their families, to guide them through the college decision process, with an emphasis on helping students interested in various pathways in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

This position facilitates communications and outreach efforts with prospective students, builds connections with high school and community college counselors, and collaborates with campus partners related to the College’s student experience at KU. They use data to track the effectiveness of their efforts and make necessary adjustments. Meeting with prospective students and their families, giving presentations on the College experience at KU, and attending recruitment fairs is required, as is the ability to travel.

The outreach coordinator stays informed of changes and trends in enrollment marketing, higher education recruitment, and careers in liberal arts and sciences. They operate from an equity focused framework to contribute to building a more inclusive KU.

These positions will report to the Assistant Director of Recruitment & Outreach and work closely with the Assistant Dean of Recruitment & Outreach, other Outreach Coordinators, the College Student Ambassadors the College communications team & the Dean’s office, as well as faculty and staff in assigned departments.
