Summary This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) you will be responsible for developing system administration requirements and specifications. Responsibilities As a IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) GS-2210-12, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Reprioritizes and allocates resources as they become available and recommends additional components to improve overall system performance. Develops standard operating procedures for a variety of IT hardware tasks or activities. Plans and coordinates product and equipment installation and lifecycle upgrades, overseeing and resolving technical and administrative problems, controlling current versions and future releases of hardware and applications software, and documenting the physical configuration of the systems. Optimizes the functionality and performance of systems. Consults with customers to identify priorities and best approaches for integrating systems administration requirements into daily operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. REQUIREMENTS: GS:12: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 Grade Level. Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. and Specialized Experience for GS-7 (or equivalent) and Above: Positions at GS-7 (or equivalent) and above require one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. The employing agency is responsible for defining the specialized experience based on the requirements of the position being filled. Examples of Specialized Experience: Installing and configuring applications software; troubleshooting and analyzing hardware and software malfunctions; installing system patches and enhancements/updates; maintenance, installation, and upgrades for LAN components; Performing Server Administrator duties; and addressing security issues concerning authorized and unauthorized logins, user rights, disk space management and virus protection; provide hardware and software support or training to customers; assembling, windows operating systems to include server editions; Microsoft office applications, active directory, exchange, and other programing environments. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level. Education This position does not have a positive education requirement at this grade level. Therefore, no transcripts are required. The Bureau of Indian Education has determined that the duties of this position are suitable scheduled, situational and for emergency telework. STATUS CANDIDATES: Consideration will be given to Non-Indian applicants (Status or Reinstatement eligibles) in the absence of a qualified Indian Preference eligible. The majority of individuals, who accept reemployment with the Federal government within 5 years of receiving the VSIP amount, must repay the gross amount of the separation pay prior to reemployment.
