Job Description:
30% - Network Analysis and Problem Management:
- Serve as Tier 3 support for network outages and problem resolution. Utilize network management tools and monitoring systems to recognize potential problem areas. Recommend solutions to address recurring problems.
20% - Implementation of Network Infrastructure Projects:
- Work independently and in collaboration with customers and vendors to implement projects addressing future network infrastructure, service, and security needs.
20% - Network Configuration:
- Design and implement configuration changes necessary for the operational management of network infrastructure. Administer network monitoring, capacity management, switch software management, and IP address management.
15% - Project Planning and Design:
Collaborate with other departments, vendors, and management to recommend solutions for network infrastructure projects. Perform the research and discovery necessary to define the scope of work.

Required Qualifications:
Associates degree and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in data networking, IT enterprise systems, or large scale computing.
Three (3) years of experience with systems design, development, installation, configuration, and problem diagnosis.
Two (2) years of network-related experience including experience configuring enterprise switches and routers, and the use of routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
Experience in IP address management and subnetting as evidenced in application materials.
Two (2) years of experience with network protocols, such as TCP/IP and UDP.
Effective written communication skills as demonstrated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related discipline.
Experience with network security technologies such as firewalls, remote access (VPN) and intrusion prevention/detection systems. Palo Alto and Checkpoint expertise is a plus.
Advanced network configuration, such as multicast, QoS, IPv6, MPLS, VSS, VPC, and datacenter overlay technologies such as VXLAN and VTEP. Experience with HP-Aruba, Juniper or Cisco is a plus.
Experience with high speed, low latency research and science DMZ networks and data centers.
Experience in the configuration of network support applications, such as monitoring, configuration automation, and DNS/DHCP servers.
Telecom Experience with VOIP, SIP, e911 and related technologies in a Microsoft Teams environment.
Programming skills in Python and experience with Ansible applied to switch and router configurations.
Experience designing, configuring and managing enterprise wireless systems – Aruba Networks experience is a plus.
Professional certifications related to job duties such as: Aruba ACMA, ACMP, ACMX. Juniper JNCIA-Junos or JNCIS-ENT. Cisco CCNA or CCNP.
Experience with UNIX and Microsoft operating systems.
Experience managing and leading projects.

The University of Kansas Information Technology Enterprise Networking unit is hiring a Senior Network Engineer. We are looking for candidates that want to work in a friendly, collaborative, and fast-paced atmosphere. The Enterprise Networking group supports the enterprise network that provides critical services to the University including wired and wireless LANs, an OSPF routed backbone as well as campus internet connectivity, DNS DHCP and IP Address Management, SSL and IPSec VPNs, Security Firewall Hardware, Datacenter Networks, and Voice over IP and SIP services. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to be challenged, solve problems, and enjoys helping find new ways to make the current status quo move forward in a team environment. This position will have the opportunity to participate in a broad variety of advanced technologies not normally found in corporate environments.
With minimal supervision this position performs advanced planning, technical design, implementation, configuration, administration, and problem resolution functions for networks and associated systems. This position will coordinate with other internal IT units and university departments as well as vendors regarding design and implementation of the network infrastructure. This position shares in responsibility for information security by following all applicable security policies and procures. This is a hybrid position requiring some in-office attendance and also requiring participation in an on-call rotation.
